As a beginner not knowing much about radar detectors, I found it easy to install and figure out how to use. I was surprised how far away The detector located and active radar.

Good buy, but not perfect

Ok, I've been doing research on this product for over a month now, watched some YouTube videos, read up on reviews everywhere and not a single soul has mentioned the lousy suction cups that came with this great product!! It's almost a show stopper for me as far as I'm concerned. What's the use of having a great product if you can't keep it on the windshield for long after going over bumps?! I finally resorted to placing my Escort at the base of my dash so that the suction keeps the radar detector from sliding instead of holding it at a higher angle on the windshield!
Escort should be paying attention to DETAILS! Anyway, other than that, I have nothing but good things to say about this detector! Love the auto muting feature where it would beep a few times and then fades away so it doesn't incessantly beep to annoy the heck out of you while driving!
What's great about it: Great detection and not annoying
What's not so great: SUCTION CUPS!
I would recommend this to a friend!

This is simply the best detector period. I have owned many many detectors and none can even compare to this one. I have owned mine for about 2 years now, and have came back to buy another one for my other vehicle...just because I have gotten too lazy to move it from vehicle to vehicle...its not hard to do, but I forget to move it..LOL

What's not so great: nothing, i think its perfect

Great range. I manually switch between city and highway. Mute the x-bands, pay attention to the K-Bands and especially Ka-Bands. Slam the brakes if you get hit with a laser. Remember you're not bulletproof. It's nearly impossible to avoid POP radar if you're the only car on the road going 90 mph. Research police radar, understand the basics of what the frequencies mean and how police utilize radar and this device is golden. Great detector for the price. Only con is the utilization of beeps instead of saying what the actual detected radar band is (i.e. x-band, k-band, ka-band, etc).

What's not so great: Cheap / flimsy suction cup windshield mount.

Good Mid Level Radar Detector

This is a good mid level radar detector.
Everything about it screams quality, including the camera case, the provided cigarette lighter plug and the unit itself. Unfortunately for the money you spend, the suction cups literally and figuratively SUCK!
Look into a sun visor clip or a permanent 3M taped mount. I don't recommend "Blendmount" because all that does is put the radar detector right in the way.
This is a good alternative to the Escort 9500. You could add the Smart Live plug for $100 extra on the Escort 8500 (and save $200) and get the same functionality as the Escort 9500
