I bought the roomba and the scooba when I hurt my back in 07. It saved my floors and I will always own both of the products. If you said I could only have 1 the scooba would win. My husband "blows" out my roomba occasionally. My dog will turn it on turn his back to it lay down and "let" it get him. He acts surprised and does it all over again.
Pros: Cleans Effectively, Cleans Under Furniture, Easy To Use, Hassle Free Operation, Long Run Time
Cons: Noisy, Small Debris Bin

Although Irobot still don't sell it in Brazil, I couldn't wait and bought one in US (no warranty I know). But anyway, this is a quite impressive machine. I have a large home. Most of it with marble and granite floor. I have been using daily and it never have been so clean. The housekeeping is starting to get worried about her job... it leaves some small drops of water sometimes, but who cares? It did 99,9 % of the dirty job for you! The only reason that I don´t give it five stars is that as the older roomba generations it gets some long hair between the brushes and wheels. But this is also easy to clean.

We have a 1200 square foot condo in the Palm Springs area that has a tile floor. The desert can be very dusty and we have tried Swifters, steamers and nothing comes close to the job that our Scooba does. We add a little vinegar to the Sccoba water and the tile floor comes out spectacular!
Pros: Cleans Great, Convenient, Efficient

Great for perfectly flat floors

I got this for my 500 sq foot kitchen/entrance/etc. which is tile. The tile are large but have wide deep grout lines. The Roomba is fine on this surface and does a great job, however the Scooba stops at each grout line acting like it is a cliff! I returned the first one, with in the first few weeks I noticed this happening and the second (refurbished is what they send I think) did the same thing! I gave up and now it just does my wood floors in the rest of the house. For that is is amazing and I would think it would do a great job on flat floors with no bumps or lips. I wish it was as "smart" as my Roomba- being able to go home to its recharge station..I have to find it and plug it in when it is done.
Pros: Easy
Cons: Flat Floors Only

Will not change size of room. Comes on automatically when it is picked up from charger. Shakes really bad while mopping. I am taking it back to the store for a refund.

Doesn't Work Well for Large Spaces

The Scooba 450 was our first iRobot purchase. We picked it because of its ability to vacuum and scrub in the same cycle. While it does a good job of cleaning as advertised, it's not suited to cleaning large areas, and it's not particularly convenient if it can't clean the area you want it to clean in a single battery charge (which lasts about 45 minutes). The first floor of our house is about 1,300 square feet, and has an open floor plan with hardwood floors. The only way the Scooba would have worked for us is if we had sectioned off 3-4 areas of the floor with the virtual walls, and let it clean each one in succession. Since the battery only holds enough charge for one session on the larger room setting and two on the smaller room setting, we would have had to charge it in between sessions - and that would have eliminated the convenience factor we were hoping for when we bought it. It's not nearly as convenient as a Roomba, which has a longer battery life, charges on its own, and can clean on a preset schedule without supervision. We're exchanging ours for a Roomba 880, which seems to have the convenience factor we were looking for in the first place.
Pros: Cleans Effectively, Easy To Use
Cons: Battery charge too short, Must Be Supervised, Pet Hair Is A Problem, Short Battery Life

My kitchen gets a lot of abuse, and I hate to mop. So it was pretty filthy when I received my Scooba 450. Session #1: See Service Notes below. After the failed session #1, I did not have the heart to move all the big furniture in the kitchen again, so I hand scrubbed just those areas and got them clean, then moved the furniture back in. But I intentionally left the high traffic areas alone so I could see how well the Scooba would do. Session #2: After the software fix described elsewhere in my review, I set the Scooba down in the middle of the kitchen and told it to start. It seemed to concentrate along the walls more than the center of the room, and did really well there. It does not seem to get right up to the walls due to the design of the robot. So I will occasionally have to hit those areas with a mop (very occasionally). I watched it hit the high traffic areas in the center of room several times. At first, I thought "It does not look like it is going to get it clean." But then I noticed that every time it went through, it took a little more dirt off. I should add that there was weeks of ground-in filth in the center. At the conclusion of the mopping session, I was pleasantly surprised at how much it had actually removed. I expected I would have to do a thorough cleaning by hand to get it all. But it got a lot more than I expected. I decided to do one more session to see it it could get the rest. I moved the virtual wall to force it to concentrate on this area, then set it to work again. By the time it was finished, it had removed about 95% of the dirt. I then went over it with a Swiffer mop with a lot of elbow grease and heavy pressure, and found it looked just about the same as before I used the Swiffer. I think to get that last little bit of ground-in dirt, I am going to have to use a scrub brush and ammonia. Once it is completely clean, I am confident the Scooba will be able to keep it clean, as long as I run it often enough.
Pros: Cleans Effectively, Easy To Use, Hassle Free Operation, Large Debris Bin
