Great product, huge capacity, very comfortable

I have had this bag for over 5 years. It is very comfortable to wear all day even with a full load in it. It has lots of little compartments to hold little things and three large compartments for the big stuff. I can get a few days worth of cloths, my macbook pro 17inch and assorted cables and notebooks in this bag. I would definitely buy another one of these if I wear it out.
I would recommend this to a friend!

the best value for your money

I had this bag gifted to me on my birthday. I had not known Targus brand before, as I was in the USA for a very short time then.
Now about the bag, it looks cool and has good quality materials and zippers. What's special about it is not it's ability to carry huge loads (>20 lbs), but the absolute ease with which you can do it. It's got a good cushioning on it's backside that lets you carry what ever you want to comfortably.
I am now back to my home country and I drive a motorcycle here. Here, I use this bag for my work every week day, groceries & supplies every weekend and it just keeps going!!
It's a hard worker, highly recommend it!!
I would recommend this to a friend!

14 years, still going strong!

Bought this bag 14 years ago during a deployment. Had it ever since. Been around the world a couple of times, and still looks good. I use it daily for work, with my laptop, rain gear and other small items. Had a buckle break, only because i stepped on it, replaced it and works just as good. Other than that, no issues what so ever. Not even faded due to the sun when i wear it on long motorcycle rides. I would get a new one, but have no reason to since this bag has lasted this long.

Excellent buy, but not for everything

This backpack has been great for over a semester, the zippers and straps hold up well and it is good for my laptop, and could accommodate one much larger. However do not expect it to be waterproof (most backpacks aren't). Additionally the zipper pocket right about the "Targus" embroidering suffers a design flaw. In the picture it looks fine but if you put anything in that pocket, it sags down because the 2 retention straps and affixed below where the weight hangs. This makes that pocket annoying to use and ruins some of the style. Also I have had some minor problems with the material near the butt region, the backpack was wearing down some clothing and collecting a multitude of colored fabric remains on it. Don't take my review the wrong way though, this backpack is great and holds a laptop much more safely that I see other students with theirs, the ones without any padding in their backpack can damage their computer (they put it to sleep right as class ends and then throw in into their unpadded backpack while the harddrive is still spinning down, my girlfriend accidentally destroyed her HDD this way--even in a padded sleeve).
Pros: big, safe laptop compartment, comfortable (especially with waist strap), rigid carrying strap on top, excellent zipper quality and ease
Cons: not waterproof (not surprising), flawed pocket design above "targus", nylon in back can wear clothing

Great Bag - but also a problem

I've had my bag for close to 5 years now and it's still going strong. I do love the capability to carry so much in it. I really abuse it sometimes with 3 laptops, chargers, a couple of portfolios, and many cables and connectors. I originally bought it for the capacity for a European 10 day trip where I was taking laptop and 3 cameras as well as change of clothes in a carry on bag. It's been great, but I have the same problem as others that the front flap sags down if you have anything in the front pockets. It won't stay up. (That's why the 4 for durability - I didn't know where else to put it) It has been great, but I may have to invoke the warranty soon because the strap is beginning to fray and seam expanding from when I use only the 1 shoulder strap most of the time.
Pros: lots of space, long lasting
Cons: front pocket 'slouch'

Great protection for laptop AND ample room for book storage.

The Targus TXL-617 is a great protector for really any size laptop. I had ordered a 17" laptop size backpack because I wanted my daughter to have ample room in her backpack for all of her school sundries and her book, as well as her purse. The only problem was that her new HP netbook is barely 12", leaving MORE than ample room, to the point where her netbook was being secured very loosely in the backpack. So I had to return it in lieu of a smaller backpack. But Targus's Customer Service was top-notch, and their Return Process was very easy, very reliable, and extremely expedient. For my own next laptop backpack, I would definitely be willing to go with a Targus. Thank You, Travis Young

Why not 17,3??

Really stupid design not to be meant for 17,3 laptops. Bought for 17,3 laptop but it doesnt fit in.

I really love this bag, and would have rated it 5 stars, if one of the zippers hadn't broken after a weeks worth of use. I will be send the bag back, and I am not sure if I would pick this bag again, I haven't decided yet !
