I realized my router was not as secure as I had believed. I researched wifi security and found that It was time to update. Linksys is such a reliable product name. I reviewed and compared companies and made a decision based on my research results. I purchased a Linksys E2500 N600 Dual-Band Wireless router. Installation was easy and the security enhanced. I have had my wifi hacked in the past and I feel secure now that I purchased and am using a secure Linksys router. Do your homework and check the security your router provides. If it's time to upgrade, I recommend Linksys!

Great router...lots of options...here's some tips. Once I determined who was on what channel...in my house and also my neighbor's networks...using a free phone app that analyzes WIFI connections, I determined that I wanted to select my own channels...so that there was little or no interference from neighboring devices.
I found that my 2.4 GHZ band was crowded, with multiple networks on Channels 1, 6, and 9. (My 2.4 GHZ band was sharing channel 1 with two other networks) I opened my router webpage...selected manual setup under WIFI and was able to select a 2.4 GHZ channel that wasn't in use...for me...channel 8. And, using the free analyzer app that I downloaded to my phone, I was able to determine that no one else was using a 5 GHZ network, so I have it all to myself. I set my 5 GHZ channel to 157...and bandwidth to 40 MHZ. Even though the 5 GHZ band is a little slower than my 2.4 GHZ band...no one is on it...and I was able to set it up for N only operation...so that no slower devices could connect to it and degrade my throughput.
FYI...Your router will sync to the slowest connected device...so, if you have a B device on you band,( read old computer, or other hardware) you'll never be able to achieve the speeds you paid for...because the router will downgrade its service to all nodes / connections as if they are B type connections...for compatibility purposes. That sort of negates the value in buying an N or AC router...unless you do like I did and set up your 5 GHZ band for N only...then the slower speed devices can't connect and you will preserve your band integrity for your enjoyment only.
So, to recap...my 5 GHZ band is setup for N only and my 2.4 GHZ band is setup for everyone else...b, g, and n.

I was able to use the included software to setup the Linksys router, I than used the advanced option to rename and change the password so that the router had the same name and password of the router I was replacing. All my devices connected to the Linksys router. The only problem I see is that the software uses the same password as the network. I usually use a different password to access the router from the one to allow network connect. But I can live with this.

I bought this as an upgrade from a previous router. I have it installed behind an ATT modem in order to have some control over certain wireless devices in my home. I wasn't looking forward to the process if setting up a new router, but it was very very easy. The devices connected to it are getting the same down and up speeds as the device hardwired to the modem. If it lasts as long as my previous one, which was working fine and only replaced as an upgrade, I will be happy. When an upgrade is in order in the future, I would stay with the line if products.
