Very Happy
on October 4, 2013
Posted by: elpatron
I have just upgraded from the DSC-HX5 to the DSC-RX100M and it has been a real treat. My first pics that i took, i could see they were superior to my old camera. It is a little heavier but other than that, i am very happy.

no instruction manual needed!
on September 6, 2012

to everyone complaining about 'no instruction manual', this camera is NOT for you. the RX100 is billed as a professional photographer's 2nd camera, so basically, someone who will pick up the functionality super duper quick. the RX100 is an amazing machine, my only worry is that my a77, a33 and a65 will become obsolete. i kid, mostly. but that's exactly what the RX100 is capable of, abolishing any other camera you own! 20.2mp! quick charging times! tons and tons of picture effects! amazing 1080 video quality! all in the palm of my hand? shoot, i might buy another...because, you know what they say...the best camera you own, is the one that's ALWAYS in your hand! the RX100 is ALWAYS in my hand. go, right now and buy yours today!!!
What's great about it: everything
What's not so great: nothing

battery charging is antiquated
on July 23, 2012
Posted by: sonystuff
I am returning it due solely of the fact that the battery charging design of IN CAMERA charging is not convenient at all. The flimsy charging door will break off at some point, and the wrist strap location is exactly in the way right at the hinge side of the charging door. Why oh Why did Sony not include a battery wall charger rather than the plug, the cable, and the flimsy door..:(
What's great about it: Low light, fast lens, big sensor
What's not so great: Battery charging in camera is pathetic
good image quality, good in marginal light conditions. No digital zoom - optical zoom to 3x only. Haven't yet begun to decipher all the features of this camera, I have a feeling I'm only beginning to tap the potential of this device.
The picture is clearer, the color is more vivid compared to my Canon PowerShot G9 in the same pre-set settings. I don't have to Photoshop the pictures. I'm very happy and satisfied with the camera.

Fine Camera, Poor Docs
on July 24, 2012

It's a great little camera, especially in its iauto+ mode. But...1. There is no instruction manual either printed or on CD in the box, and the one online cannot be downloaded for printing but only viewed. 2. No Macintosh software is available, so Mac users cannot process RAW files. These are two very serious shortcomings. Although billed as a professional camera, it functions best as a very sophisticated point and shoot that does create excellent pictures.
What's great about it: Sensor Size, Zeiss Lens
What's not so great: No Manual in Box. No Mac Software

Groundbreaking camera
on July 22, 2012

I have had this little gem for just a few days and it absolutely lives up to the hype. Huge sensor for such a tiny body, fast Zeiss lens, truly pocketable. Crushes my old Canon S100 and takes images that are amazing.
The only reason I subtracted a star is that I find it amazing that Sony would not provide a manual, either in hard copy or downloadable. All we have to go on is trial and error and common sense. For a product that is not cheap but is also not intuitive enough to not require instructions, this feels like Sony simply rushed it out the door to take advantage of Pogue's review. HELP!
What's great about it: Amazing feature list
What's not so great: No manual to speak of
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great compact RX 100 camera
on August 10, 2012

Beautiful pictures while using it in Europe last couple weeks, nice low light pictures; stop working intermittently due to "overheat" with recurrent Error messages, kind of unreliable in some way; I just returned the camera, and exchange it with a new one, Hopefully it is not an inherent problem.
What's great about it: Beautiful picures & LCD screen, F1.8, P.A.S.M control menu
What's not so great: Overheat with Error messages; no clear instruction manual, no battery charger
