For the price... Too many drawbacks

Basicaly no IS (digital is utter... let's sey it doesn't count) and no tracking AF is not a problem, as I shoot it rigged somehow. Slow lens... I will live with that. After all it is tiny. Hard to navigate? I will just set it up and will not change. But the sensor? Really? That is supposed to be the key selling point. It was supposed to be type 1". Instead it uses 15.3Mpx out of 20Mpx which is 75%. It achieves 24mm eqivalent at 7.7-7.9mm instead of 8.8-9mm. Its crop is not x2.7 like it should be in 1", but x3.1 istead. With f/4 lens it is simply dark. Low light performance is not satisfying. It was supposed to smash actioncams in that regard. In fact the difference is barely noticeable. It has a form of actioncam but lacks its key features like wide FoV and proper IS. You could easily make it a bit bigger, avoid comparison to Gopro, use the whole sensor, and faster lens with some regulation of f-stops, tracking AF and IS, to make it proper camera for videographer.

Amazing pro level camera packed into small form

Sony is genius for scaling big features into smaller and smaller form factors- they must have a shrink ray, which I have no doubt is also small and compact. The RX0 II is a full featured and complex camera ideal for quick multicam shoots complete with 4k, raw, and HDR. Get to know this camera- it is simply amazing.

Got 90% of what I wanted
on August 2, 2012

This was a replacement / upgrade from Nikon S53c and although it's specs are impressive, it's handling is difficult thus all the aftermarket grips, etc. Macro mode has fixed f stop and only works @ wide angle. Very fast write times considering the large files. This camera is pocketable, but reinforce your pockets! Why no magnesium ergo shape for this price? Fast lens at this size IF YOU shoot only wide angle. Lack of decent printed manual is cheesy marketing.
What's great about it: High res, fast autofocus, fast write times
What's not so great: Ergonomics of a brick! Many compromises in macro

Always Wanting More Features
on July 20, 2012

The RX100 is no doubt currently the Best In Class for a compact size camera with professional level performance. However the two things that affect the photo the most is the lens and lighting. The RX100 has a fast and excellent f1.8 Zeiss T* lens but the on board flash limits its full photography potential.
I wish the RX 100 had Wireless Flash Control abilities to control something like the HVL-F43AM Flash for creative off camera lighting.
What's great about it: Size, Performance, Features
What's not so great: Flash Output

Awesome performance on any situation

I take it as my second cam (the first one is a DSLR) and is perfect for almost any situation where you can't use a bigger/expensive camera, like a DSLR. With excellence performance on low light, and not to mention the possibility to work with raw files and HD video with steady shot feature, makes a perfect choice for both amateur and professional photographer.

Best point and shoot, ever!
on July 22, 2012
Posted by: Linddy
My husband and i spent two months researching the perfect point and shoot to replace his much loved Canon G9 which unfortunately finally gave out. We have a business where we need to take professional looking pictures, but we also have a toddler and need a camera that is easy to throw in your pocket, take quickie photos and go. We also make very large prints from photos so megapixels, sensor size and great macro capabilities were very important as well. We also wanted to be able to choose to defocus the background, which we couldn't do with our old camera. Finally, we wanted a retractable lens so we didn't have to mess with a large lens and lens cap. We found out about this camera right as we were going to invest in a mirrorless one and we are so happy we went with the rx100! We love the Zeiss lens and that it's made in Japan, it's everything we wanted and more, dare I say revolutionary? I'm not going to go through all the specifics, you can go online and find out everything you need to know and more, but it truly is a groundbreaking camera and we highly recommend it. As far as i am concerned there is no need for a bulky DSLR camera ever again, thanks Sony, amazing job!

Rx100 M3 Initial impression
on June 25, 2014
Posted by: AndyV
The images are sharp but noise is prevalent. Even at ISO 200 the images
are noisy. Using Lightroom with a Luminous setting of about 50 clears that up. Not too much post processing sharpening is necessary, Perhaps a 50/50 setting of noise reductions and sharpening will do. As a small camera, use every means to keep it from falling out of your hand. Use the strap wrist band and the optional stick on grip. (not expensive) The image tone is excellent and an enlargement of 16x20 is very sharp.and attractive.
Has many features as on the A77 or A7 series. This is a quality point and shoot camera but has a limited aperture range of 1.8 to f 11.This could be a negative for Landscape shooting which often requires a smaller aperture. A workaround for this issues is to use hyperfocal techniques to gain a greater depth of field. What is interesting is the the wider lens openings are very sharp but are limited in depth of field.
Just began using it and these are my initial observation.

Very good start but...

Great Camera, best compact so far.
However I do think it is utterly overprized (500 USD max.), the lack of an external battery charger is annoying and Shutter Speed of 1/4000th is desperately needed.
What's great about it: IQ, Size
What's not so great: Prize, Lack of Charger
