Takes great pictures, makes constant whirring noise
on April 27, 2019

Bought this camera a couple years ago. It had great reviews and takes great pictures, but it has started whirring non-stop (like it is constantly trying to track or focus), and that is audible in all videos and makes it difficult to hear anything in the video over the whirring.

Hi Malia, We are sorry about this issue. Please perform a power reset: Remove the battery from the camera. Set the power switch to ON. Press and hold the shutter button for 30 seconds. Set the power switch to OFF. Insert the battery back to the camera. Set the power switch to ON to see if the camera will turn on. If still unresolved, initialize the camera to its factory settings: https://helpguide.sony.net/dsc/1740/v1/en/contents/TP0001516290.html In case the issue is still unresolved, go to this page: https://us.esupport.sony.com/support/s/service?language=en_US Regards, Vincent

We have 2 x RX100 V1's

I bought my RX100 within 1 year of its introduction and I'm still really happy with the photo and video image quality. It is so small and compact that it is my first choice to grab as I head out to family events or when traveling. My Sony a99 is even more capable, but I bring it only 25% of the time. About 2 years ago I bought my wife one as well so she can a a very capable compact camera when she wants something more than an iPhone. Highly recommended!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Disappointed auth Cybersquat RX 100 II
on January 2, 2015
Posted by: HerbieB
The camera takes fine photos. The hardware ergonomic layout is dismal. The software and user interface are abysmal. The camera is difficult to learn and difficult to use. The negatives outweigh the positives. I wish I had purchased an alternate camera.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Poorly designed Filter Adaptor & Screen Protector
on September 22, 2014
Posted by: Poorlydesigned
The RX100-II camera is superb! So I was quite surprised at how poorly designed and inadequate the filter adaptor and Screen Protector sheet both are. The filter adaptor (that the Polarizer filter, etc., screws into) and screen protector are just made of sticky tape, that one needs to press against the camera lens/screen to stick on. The first day I used them, which happened to be in very high humidity, both fell off within a few hours, and the "stick" completely went away, and I could no longer use them to mount on the camera--thus had to hand-hold the filters to the lens every time I needed them. When I called SONY, they just said that there was no warranty on these two products--I would just have to order and pay for them again. With such a great camera, I just cannot believe that the filter adaptor does not screw on--and they are just using a sticky tape material which does not hold up, especially in "weather" and over the long term--and then when they quickly fall apart, SONY just expects you to keep buying new ones.... SONY you need a new design for the filter adaptor (VFA-49R1) and Screen Protector (PCK-LM15)!!!!

Hi Poorlydesigned,
Thanks for bringing this to our attention and appreciate the feedback. We will forward this to our engineers for future product enhancement. For further assistance, please reach us at SocialSupport@am.sony.com
I waited years before I re-entered the photography/videography field. I'm glad that I waited and this camera became available. The BIONZ X, like it's big brothers, is so versatile. Totally manual to completely Automatic and every place inbetween. The 4K is beautiful and the stills are just brilliant. The Action Camera still has it's reigning KING. Sell all your plastic uni-body black, silver, 3,4,5,6,7. They are obsolete. This little powerhouse is built tough. Picture quality, Zeiss perfect. I'm so glad I never bought any of the inferior so-called action cameras with 50/50 reviews. Who wants to gambel with this kind of camera? Not me! My everything camera, Thank You Sony. You've outdone yourselves again.

What's great about it: 20.1MP and night shots
What's not so great: The Flash seems kinda flemsy

DSC-RX100

- overall very good picture quality, and features ultracompact !!! like me :)
- no 720p/30fps mp4 video mode (6...9mbps, best mode, good quality, less space required) - only iso3200 video sensitivity (specification) - large sensor (20Mp, but, enough 10...12Mp) - too high contrast (normal setting, can adjust) - less green-color reproduction - multi-shoot not so accurate with moving object (single-shoot more noise, but more detail)
What's great about it: best features ultracompact
What's not so great: color reproduction (not enough green-color)
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great camera--But
on July 13, 2014

I purchased this camera hoping I would like it. Overall, it is a great camera. But, I really want more zoom and this camera doesn't have it. Also, I think the camera is too small. I'm a woman with small hands but I found it very awkward to hold. I'm hoping M4 will have 10 - 20 x zoom, a viewfinder, at least 20 megapixals and a grip built in to make it easier to hold
