Best Small Camera Ever

I have owned this camera for several months now. I got the camera for personal use and for work. Most of my initial shots were of work stuff so I was not immediately impressed. However, once I started using it for personal use the quality of the camera was stunning.
Size Matters - this large sensor is capable of impressive image captures that the normal point & shoot can't compete with.
Recently I was at a family gathering where the other family members had point & shoots and one DSLR. I compared my shots to others taken of the same subject with the other cameras including a Canon Rebel and couldn't believe the difference. This little Sony far out-shined the APS-C sensor of Canon and simply blew away the point & shoots. The detail was phenominal, the contrast and color saturation were incredible.
Sony has hit a home run with this camera. I would recommend it to anyone that is looking for something more than just the ordinary point & shoot.
What's great about it: Impressive Image Quality
What's not so great: Flash Location, Lack of Owner's Manual
I would recommend this to a friend!

The Real Deal

This replaced a Leica D-Lux 5 as my carry around point-and-shoot; though, it's so much more than that... I'm a serious hobbyist who shoots Leica M, Nikon FX and now Sony FE camera systems... The RX100m3 was meant to augment my gear as a portable, on-the-go alternative... The build quality, image quality (decent at higher ISOs), EVF and flash are all superb on this little guy... And it literally fits in a shirt pocket (I'm 6'2" and wear XL gloves but don't find it "too small"; it's supposed to be small and portable)... Overall, I'm astounded by what this camera can do for its size and feel it's worth the higher price over previous models and other point/shoot options... Very satisfied...

Best Compact Camera

I am NOT a professional photographer, nor do I have the experience, ability or will to fuss with a film camera. However, I have owned several digital point and shoots in the past and they all PAIL in comparison to the image quality and capabilities of the RX-100M2. Before the purchase, I was deciding between this camera and the ridiculously priced RX1 ($2800). I made the right choice. After researching and analyzing reviews, and now owning the M2, I can say with confidence that the quality of not only the photos but the camera itself (build, interface ease of use) makes it worth the $750. I can see this camera lasting quite a while and collecting fantastic photos during its lifespan. HIGHLY recommended.
What's great about it: Excellent photo quality, 24p 1080p video, intuitive interface, in-camera effects
What's not so great: Wireless transfer process
I would recommend this to a friend!

First .. WOW .. the low light performance of this little camera is awesome! The High-ISO performance is FAR beyond anything I've used in this class of camera and out-performs some recent mid-range DSLRs. I'm getting good useable photos at ISO 4000 and no problem at all with ISO 1600 .. it has many (if not all) the controls and settings of several DSLR cameras I've recently owned that helps with getting great low light performance as well. Let's remember what we purchased this camera for .. it's tiny size and LARGE sensor .. it does not disappoint, when used as a pro camera .... OK, that said .. putting it in the 'Intelligent Auto' mode left me wishing for lower 'auto-ISO' choices or maybe a 'upper/lower ISO LIMIT' setting. But it takes great photos all the same. Not a disappointment, at all. ** I have only (2) CONs : The pop-up viewfinder eyepiece .. it pops up nice solid 'click' .. but when pulling back on the eye piece it does NOT 'snap' into place, feels a little 'wobbly' .. it does not seem to affect the operation or focusing that I can tell .. The second is the 'Diopter' adjustment .. because of it's proximity to 'eyebrows' and perhaps because the eyepiece is wobbly (the pullback part) .. it tends to need regular adjustment which can be a pain. (Otherwise I'd have given 5 or 6 stars) :-)

Best of both worlds

I take a camera with me almost everywhere I go and there are many times when a DSLR is simply too large. My Canon S95 got fried when my wife dropped it in the Dead Sea (!) so I needed a replacement. The biggest issue with prior compact cameras has been indoor flash performance. The RX100 solves this problem. This camera can substitute for your DSLR in just about every situation and since it is smaller and lighter, you are more likely to take it and use it.
What's great about it: excellent flash performance; compact size
What's not so great: zoom could be longer

All that I could ask for

I'm new to photography and chose this one over a DSLR because the fact is that I'll take 10X as many photos with this one. It's fast and small and I'll always have it with me. Walking along I stopped and took a closeup pic of an autumn leave (only 2 inches away) with no need of lens changing. Then, some distant pics of buildings. Then, an amazing shot of my beautiful daughter with background defocus. And finally, some low light shots in the night club. All point and shoot and you'd swear the pics were from a high end professional SLR. Even using it in automatic mode produces remarkable photo quality. I can't wait to learn and try all of the features. Friends are already asking me how I took such nice photos with a point and shoot. The video quality is amazing as well.
What's great about it: Near, if not the same as DSLR quality
What's not so great: Can't use a remote
I would recommend this to a friend!

Great camera but....

The RX100 II is a great little camera: pocketable: Zeiss lens, exceptional build quality, nice features, quality pictures for the most part. I also have a NEX7 with the 24mm Zeiss lens and expected similar result from the RX100 II in the scene mode for sunsets as an example. That's not going to happen unless you use a tripod. In that mode, the shutter speed and ISO make hand holding the RX100 nearly impossible. Always blurry pictures vs. the NEX 7 shooting in the same mode. I find that many times unless i really dial up the ISO I am getting shutter speeds at 1/30th which prevents super sharp pictures even with the steady shot feature turned on. It would be nice if the tele zoom went to 140- 150 MM and didn't go to f4.9 in the tele mode.
Sharing pictures and sending to a smartphone even with the memories app on an iPhone is not as easy as it sounds and it needs wi-fi vs. bluetooth.
Accessories: The camera needs a grip for man sized hands. Yet it is an accessory for $15. More important, The camera needs an accessory viewfinder for outdoor shots. The articulating screen is good and even set for daylight there is too much reflection to really compose the shot. The ACCESSORY VIEWFIDER is $449 or discounted by some stores at $349- still a great deal of money. At $699, the price of this camera is high and SONY should be making a good enough profit without gouging the customer on the viewfinder. The instruction booklet leave a lot to be desired. There's lot to learn about the capabilities of the camera beyond the list of features. The booklet that comes with he camera is not complete at all. So then you have to buy a book for $25. C'mon now. I expect more of SONY
All in all, a good camera. After all the reviews I read and spending nearly $1300 for the camera, viewfinder, battery charger, flash and grip, I probably could have considered a few other cameras. I'm going to keep it hough and continue experimenting as I believe it will probably be great....until the RX200 with built-in Viewfinder and longer telephoto range are available in June or July of this year.

The best point and shoot camera i have ever owned by far. Very sharp and crisp pics thanks to the 1 inch sensor. It's kind of on the high side as far as the price, but it's totally worth it !
What's great about it: Big sensor, Sleek design, Very compact
