I have these speakers setup as my primarily left and right channels. Currently only have a 3.1 setup in a moderate size room. They produce excellent quality sound that is smooth and balanced.

What's great about it: Everything... including customer service.
What's not so great: No cons so far.
First, I am an audiophile. I have a Modulus A preamp along with two other tube pre-amps. I have two tube amps and both a Muse 100 and Conrad Johnson solid state amplifier. I am plugged into two Martin Logan Request 2 in the front and two Arius I in the rear with a Theater center speaker and a Martin Logan 3 cone 900 watt sub which I can't recall the name of right now. I also have an old pair of Infiniti RS3 which I listen to as well but they are very old. To the point, music is very important to me. I unfortunately had to move and my new house does not allow for my beloved gear and I guess I should have said I used to above... 8-(
Life goes on and I bought a Pioneer Elite BD player and a Pioneer Elite 7:1 Amplifier to go along with the following:
2 Definitive "Mythos" speakers for my front right and left..
1 Definitive "CLR- 2002" Center Speaker
4 Definitive "Studio Monitor 350"s for my surround
1 Martin Logan Sub which I get to keep using.
While I would have preferred staying with my old system, this is the one speaker system I found that has allowed me to keep my sanity during this life transition. The Definitive system above creates such a wide and precise sound stage (with depth) it is hard to believe you can get this level of sound (and volume) from such small speakers. They are rated at 200 watts each. In short, while it is a compromise jumping from 10K speakers to the above, it has not been the grating experience I thought it would be. I am pleased at how good both music and sound tracks come through on these speakers. (And the speakers are not even broken in yet.)
I went to Best Buy Magnolia on four different occasions, to two different stores (acoustics change), and after listening to everything they had, including two low end Martin Logans, these were far superior to anything else I listened to including far more expensive speakers that were in the Magnolia line up. I encourage you to take your own CDs in with you and make sure they use a comparable receiver to the one you have at home. I think you will be pleasantly surprised and for the cost/performance ratio these are the bomb!
Lastly a comment on customer support which prompted this review. While moving my friends thought they would be helpful and threw away my boxes when I wasn't looking. (doh!) Of course they contained the mounting clips. Customer service was phenomenal. A real person in the United States with perfect English picked up the phone immediately then transferred me directly to Chet their parts manager and within 5 minutes I had replacement mounts en-route. Well done!
In short I don't believe you can do better within this system's price range. If you are a little shy of the cost wait a while longer for these. Everything below this range, and even most of those above, could not compare.
Happy listening,
Greg

What's great about it: Range of sound that these output compared to "normal" speakers
What's not so great: Price... but who likes paying for anything these days so I wont hold it against them
We have rewatched so many movies since purchasing these as my mids and rears in a 7.1 Pioneer set up and they not only "sound" clean and crisp, I swear I am hearing sounds that werent even audible with my prior set up. Expensive at $499 a pair, but if you enjoy movies (and music!!) in you rliving room at levels that would make any neighbor mad... these are a great buy.

What's great about it: size, sound
What's not so great: nothing
Bought these for my surround speakers. They arrived before my floor speakers (deftech bp7004) so I plugged them in as my front speakers to give them a listen. Amazing! These could easily be front/main speakers. Highs and mids are crisp and clear. Bass is strong from the radiators. Cross these at 60hz. I'm very sold on the complete Deftech line. BP7004, prosub, and c/l/r 2500.

What's great about it: Sounds full bodied.
What's not so great: Nothing
Good bottom end which is unusual for most speakers this size or price range. It has a good balance whether listing to HD TV or high end stereo. I would definitly recommend them if they fit into your budget.

What's great about it: Clean, tight sound for both movies and music -- Price
What's not so great: Absolutely nothing
For 30 years I've had floorstanding speakers, always seemed necessary for high-quality music -- for movies I was occasionally tempted to buy into the concept of smaller satellites like Bose, but couldn't give up the full-range audio quality I was used to for music, which is more important to me.
A year ago I was introduced to Def Tech when I put together a simple system in my man cave -- I was impressed by the Promonitor line compared to other, higher-priced brands, because of the clarity and balanced sound -- one thing led to another, and I now have Def Techs all around the house, including these Studio Monitors as the mains in the living room, driven by Denon 2808 -- also moved the Promonitors/Procenter upstairs, and demoted high-end Polks and Boston surrounds to the man cave.
These speakers are great for both movies and music -- by far the cleanest sound I've ever heard for the price -- and as a bonus I've recovered some floor space, as these blend in nicely on the glass shelves of my audio towers. SWEET!!!!

What's great about it: Soundfield, imaging, range
What's not so great: looks & price
Though not the best looking bookshelf speaker around, they are just dynamite sounding. Every time I listen to them I can't believe how good they sound. I have them in my office, and I am close to one and far from the other, but was able to angle them so they really fill up the room in a perfectly balanced way. I have Def-Tech 7002's in my living room and love them too. These little guys are kind of ugly and so when I did my "A/B" at Magnolia, I really *wanted* to like something else better, but these just sounded the best compared to *all* the other bookshelves, so I got them, brought them home, and they *really* did not disappoint. It's been a long time since I've been able to really enjoy music in my home office.
They are a bit on the pricey side... I wish they were $300 instead of $500

What's great about it: imaging (sound location), size, sound quality, low end power, ...should i go on?
What's not so great: if i am able to edit this, i will let you know when i think of one.
i am serious when i say that i did about 6 months of researching before i finally made my latest purchase for speakers. if there is one passion in my life it's having a great audio system to accent anything i may be listening to in my home. prior to this pair, i owned - MTX floorstandings, then bose 201, then bose 301s. after many years of being happy with power, but being frustrated with quality, i tossed up for the longest time between mirage and def tech. the competition at the time happened to be a pair of floorstandings from mirage, the omni sats i believe. though they had better bass, i obviously ended up going with the 350s (nothing negative against mirage).
i now live in an appartment, and though i want some bass, i am not obtrusive to my neighbors. so - because of their SIZE and IMAGING, they ultimately won me over. you not only get a sense of direction with these babies, but a sense of distance - which, frankly, is astonishing! to have something feel like it is 10 feet away, 100s of feet away, or most importantly 2 inches away, - it's all RIDICULOUS! i have never once second guessed myself about my purchase.
though they don't TRULY hit like a floorstanding speaker - they definately hit better than ANY bookshelf speaker when it comes to bass. the 8 inch bass radiator (for those who don't know) reacts in an opposite fassion to the 5 1/4" bass driver. when the bass driver hits, the radiator sucks in, and vice versa - creating a vaccuum.
there have been numerous times when i actually look over my shoulder for the source of my stupidity from these speakers. i might look for a "dog barking" or "knocking at a door" - and this is honest. i've done this on numerous occasions.
and honestly, when it comes to people complaining about pricing - are you kidding me? it's one of 2 - 3 speaker models at MHT that come in a pair! come on guys! 500 for the PAIR.
try them you won't be disappointed - and heck, if you are - that's why best buy has a wonderful exchange policy! although, in this instance, i don't think that matters

What's great about it: look great, sound great, powerful
What's not so great: pricey
I did a lot of research on paradigm, KEF, Polk, Aperion and finally ended up purchasing these speakers after hearing them in Best Busy's Magnolia Center and wow, they really deliver in the sound dept. Granted, I just purchased them so they are not yet 'broken in' but they still sound great out of the box and that means they will only sound better a couple of months down the road. I am currently using them as rear surround speakers (I have a 5.1 set-up) and I replaced a set of Bose 301 speakers which quite frankly, sound terrible in comparison but I learned the hard way that Bose are way over-priced for what you get. Now I am waiting for my new receiver (Pioneer Elite) to arrive to really get the most out of these def tech speakers.
The only con I can think of this far is that they are a bit pricey, but keep in mind, I realize that for the quality of the speaker they are well worth it, it's just that I had not originally intended on plunking down almost $500 for a pair of bookshelf speakers, but that's just me.

What's not so great: Nothing!
These speakers are incredible! I am using 4 of them at the moment for my surrounds and my surround backs. They are amazing sounding speakers. Before I got my fronts (BP7006's), I had them as my fronts and loved them there, but wanted some floor standing speakers. These speakers are very versatile and are great for both music and movies.
