This Product May Have Saved My Life.

I've had the Otterbox Commuter case for my iPhone 5 for almost two years and I just want to commend how well the case has held up. I recently got into a Motorcycle accident and ended up skidding across the pavement for about 20 feet on my stomach. My legs took the brunt of the force, but thankfully I had the proper protection on. After I picked myself up off the ground, I went to survey the damage. At this point my bike was inoperable and I feared that I wouldn't be able to contact anybody. The pocket where my phone sat was torn to bits and holed through like swiss cheese and all I could see were the black imprints of where my phone sat in my pocket and where it came in contact with the road. When I reached for my phone to call for help, I was amazed at how well the case protected my phone. The case was a little worn and I was worried that the phone would be broken; however, after powering the phone up, I saw no visible damage and even the screen was in pristine condition! Without a doubt, that phone would not be working right now after coming into contact with the ground had it not been for the case. The toughness and durability of this case protected my phone and may have saved me from a sticky situation.
Pros: High quality, Durable

See it to Believe It

I never would have attempted this on my own but as I was running up the stairs of the middle school I teach at....hands filled with bags...my iPhone slipped out of my pocket right at the top of the stairs. I watched as it bounced all the way down the concrete stairs, knowing I would find a cracked phone. I walked down the stairs picked up the phone and not a scratch on it. I was pleasantly surprised. The commuter case was definitely worth every penny.

So I dropped my 5s in a parking lot...

My phone was literally ran over by a car in a busy grocery store parking lot while wearing a commuter case. It fell out of my bag while wrestling my toddler and I didn't notice until I got home.
After checking the "find my iPhone" app I raced back to the store. The clerk said thankfully someone turned it in....but not before parking in the space. Yikes! I was expecting the worst. I mean a car ran over it! The case was pretty beat up and the thin plastic bar near the ports had broken.
The phone didn't have a scratch. Not a single mark.
I have had a few commuter cases before and since. I drop my phone from waist height or higher on a pretty regular basis, sometimes just to emphasize to defender devotees who hate the bulk that this one is really good protection too. The toddler turned preschooler throws it across the room at least once a week. It sits in the bottom of my purse with who knows what else. But nothing tops the car story.
I just ordered my 4th one and figured it was time to add my two cents. :)
Pros: High quality, Durable, great colors
Cons: a little thick

Accidentally launched my iPhone 5 off the 3rd floor outdoor balcony this weekend, froze in fear for a moment, listened for the thud (which was sickeningly loud), and then ran downstairs to retrieve what was left of my poor destroyed device. I was expecting a tragic scene, the depressing end of a trusted ally - shattered and broken. However. Not only did I find my phone in one happy piece, but there wasn't a single scratch or crack on it!! THANK YOU OTTERBOX!!

I recently let my iPhone slip out of my hand and it fell down an elevator shaft four stories high into the pipes below the basement area of the building. As I prepared to replace my phone we were able to retrieve it late the next day. To my utter amazement it turned on immediately and had a slight scuff mark on my white commuter case. It is truly "otter" (utter) amazement. Thanks for creating such a durable product.

Poor Quality Case

I bought an iPhone 5S as an upgrade to my 4S. I had an Otterbox Commuter style case for my 4S and absolutely loved it, so it seemed like a no-brainer to purchase one for my 5S.
The case has a couple of things going for it. It fits my 5S beautifully. I know it will protect the phone; I once dropped my 4S in a parking lot and it was pristine.
But the Commuter I ordered for my 5S is a disappointment in terms of quality. It's definitely not up to Otterbox standards. The power button is difficult to press. The edges on the cutout for the silencer button weren't cut cleanly, making the case look sloppy. The tab covers for the power and microphone jacks are difficult to open and close and aren't anywhere near as pliable as the Commuter I had for my 4S, making it difficult to use the power cord and headphones.
Overall, while I know it's going to do its job and protect my phone, it's a real disappointment from a quality standpoint. Otterbox, you can do better.
Cons: Low quality
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great case, but don't buy the white!

I had this case for a really long time in dark colors and it was perfect, but then I bought a new one for a fresh look and I selected white for the inner layer. I can't put the case ANYWHERE without the white absorbing colors from my purse, my jeans, or any other fabric. It constantly looks smudged and dirty now. Quite disappointed by that.
Pros: High quality, Durable
Cons: white gets dirty easily

Love the case, hate the white

I have owned several otterboxes for previous phones. Recently purchased a new iphone 5s and had to have an otterbox on it. I ordered the Commuter white inner silicon layer, aqua blue outer plastic layer. The case is great, protects the phone as I expected an otterbox to (already dropped it a few times and no damage). However, the white silicon is VERY dirty and I've only had it for a week. I have come to terms with the fact that it will be perpetually dirty, as I have cleaned it several times and within the day its back to being filthy. Just wish I knew ahead of time how dirty that silicon would get and how hard it would be to clean and keep clean. I would have ordered another color had I known.
Pros: High quality, Durable
Cons: white gets filthy!!
