Dissapointing...

Got the defender series for my IPhone 4S and loved it. So disappointing that the 5S version quality is so much worse. I've had the case for only a short time and the rubber parts are already starting to flake off. Also like the other reviews say makes the power button really hard to press. Also the edges on the case are relatively sharp due to poor casting of the plastic. The worse part of the case if the bottom of the case which makes it very difficult to plug in your charger cored. The flaps on the bottom are also garbage from a pure design standpoint deforming from the plugged in cored drive me crazy. Very disappointing after loving the 4S version so much. No searching for a reliable case for my IPhone 5S before all the rubber wears off.
Cons: Low quality, Not durable, sharp edges

Not as good as they used to be

In the past, I loved all Otterbox things but their quality has gone way down. I bought this case for Christmas and the hard shell cracked in half the first time I tried taking it out of the case. I don't know what they have changed but the iPhone 3, 4, & 4S cases that I had I loved. Then again, those were purchased a few years ago. Not happy with this case at all.
Cons: Low quality, Not durable, plastic shell breaks in half

Commuter has a sharp edge

The Commuter seems to be a prety solid case. The size is fine and it slides in and out of my pocket easily. I have one complaint:
There is a sharp edge on the front top side of the case, right where your ear contacts the phone when you talk. Very uncomfortable. This is significant enough that I thought about sending the case back. Instead, I think I'm going to try to file the edge down and hope I don't deface the case.
Overall this is a nice case. Fix this design/production flaw and I would rate the case 5 stars.

i bought this first for the color then i got it for the convenience of the case. I have dropped this a couple of times and it has not broke at all. i trust otterbox

The Clunker Case

In comparison to my last otterbox commuter case, the new iphone 5 commuter case is a big letdown. I had my 3GS for 3 long years and that generation of commuter case kept my iphone in one piece through several mishaps. Not only did it do an outstanding job of protecting my phone but the low profile of the case looked great without adding bulk. I loved the old commuter so much that when it came time to order the case for my iPhone 5 I didn't even look at other cases! I regret that now. Apparently Otterbox has gotten lazy in the last 3 years. The i5 commuter case drowns the sleek i5 in overly excessive amounts of material turning a beautiful phone into an ugly brick. The case creates a steep ridge around the perimeter of the screen that is uncomfortable on the ear. The phone felt uncomfortable in my pocket and left a rectangular stretch mark in my jeans. Furthermore, as many have mentioned, the charger plug built into the case does not fit properly and sticks out of the bottom of the phone. This makes the case look cheap and poorly made. There is no doubt that the case protects the phone. If you do not care about style, comfort, and functionality then this case is a good case. I feel like otterbox just figured that they could simply change a few dimensions so the case fits the new i5 design and everyone would buy it just because of their solid reputation. Unfortunately in my case they were right but I suggest YOU don't make the same mistake!

Excellent case with one minor caveat

Excellent protection with a solid feel and it looks great! The inner sheath fit perfectly around the phone and the plastic cover was easy to install. Accordingly, my experience does not reconcile with other reviews regarding the difficulty of installing the cover... ...I'm not sure how there could be a problem.
One area of improvement relates to the screen cover. Variance in the placement (left/right, up/down) was exceedingly small. Also, once aligned it adhered poorly to the screen. I ended up taking it off after two days.
Overall, I'm happy with the case. Well done!

Not quite right....

I previously had a Defender and loved it except for the bulk. Thought I'd try a Commuter with my new iphone 5. I will echo some previously mentioned issues. The connector cover just does not fit correctly. Wont close properly, doesn't look good. I also will probably end up cutting it off. But, the rest of the case fits fine and seems like it will be very durable. My biggest complaint is that the paper tab on the front of the screen protector did not peel off properly and left a lot of sticky goo on the face of the cover. I tried rubbing it off to no avail. Finally just decided not to use it at all. I'll buy a different screen protector. On a very positive note, Otter Box service is great. Very fast!

Great case!

iPhone 5 commuter case (Black)
- Initially the rubber mold did not fit correctly inside the hard shell. However, if you trim back the rubber in the places where it does not fit you can have a great fit!
- The case does add a lot of bulk to the phone which I found weird because it's no more thicker than the iPhone 4s commuter case. I think it's just because the iPhone 5 is longer.
- Everyone complaining that the port coverings on the bottom of the phone hangs outside the case, make sure that the two little notches that stick out on the side of the flaps are tucked into the case. Also make sure that the rubber insert is correctly placed into the case as well i.e. no gaps etc. Mine do not hang at all.
