This is my second Otterbox phone case and I love it! I had my first one for two years. It was getting broken as a result of being dropped - way more than once! - but my phone, as well as the glass screen protector, are still perfect as a result of the serious protection provided by my Otterbox! I didn't even hesitate to buy a new one!
I bought an outer shell to replace one that cracked upon sitting down with my phone in my back pocket. The outer case cracked but there was no damage to my phone. Without the case my phone would have bent.
This is my second Otterbox and I will never go to another company. The pale pink is keeping it's colour just fine and my last one kept the phone in amazing shape.
Sleek enough to fit in my pocket. Sturdy enough to take multiple drops from ~3-4ft to tile floors. Eventually ~2-3 years it finally had 2 cracks which connected at the Apple hole breaking the case. That's longer than I expected the case to last.
Pros: Durable. Slim enough to fit into rear pockets. Nice color selection. Cons: Hard to put on and take off. Screen cover is a pain to install, but worth it. Sometimes debris end up inside the case. Have and will continue to recommend to others.
Got my otterbox a few weeks ago and I love it. I had the defender on my old iPhone for 6 years, and I’m both adventurous and clumsy. That poor phone survived rain storms, mud pits, and tile floors. In fact, the phone was fine but I got a new one for Christmas so I went straight to otterbox. Something more sleek this time, the commuter is great. Slips easily into my pockets and I attached an adhesive pocket on the back for my cards. The screen protector already has a slice in it, which is disappointing, but I’ll call it user error. Anyway, love it. Very happy with otter box.
I liked the soft/rubber shell much better, but after having dropped my phone so many times through the years, the interior support broke down and I had to replace it. Unfortunately the old style is no longer manufactured and this (commuter series) was the closest I could get. I don't like the slick plastic backing, it makes me feel that I'll drop my phone more often now because it's harder to hold on to (the plastic feels slippery). Also, the top on/off button is suddenly very hard to operate, it takes serious finger force to shut off, perhaps the button being too restricted by the dual casing. The dual case is neat looking (w/ the 2 color combination), but functionality wise is not as functional as my old otter case was and it also makes me nervous that the plastic would crack if I accidentally drop my phone (vs the old rubberized shell that nicely protected the phone from its many falls, and the case itself was durable, too; the case lasted for a good 5 years before starting to fail). Maybe the new dual case will grow on me as I'll get used to it, but for now, not as impressed as I was by the original, simple, functional rubberized otter case.

Dear Tenzi,
Sorry to hear that this Commuter series just isn't matching up with your style as well as that previous Defender case! True, the Commuter is engineered to be a sleeker, more pocket-friendly design, but if you're looking for the Defender, we do still offer it for the iPhone 5/5S/SE. Please feel welcome to check it out via the link below, and give our friendly Otters a call at 1-855-688-7269 with any further questions!
I'd previously purchased an OtterBox case for my tablet that I've really been pleased with, where the rubber grip runs along the outer rim and the back of the tablet, and I'd hoped this slipcover with the accompanying phone case would provide similar grip. Instead, the plastic is on top right where I hold my phone - around the middle - and it's more slippery and a little uncomfortable due to the plastic's angular design. It also makes it difficult to prop my phone up against things, because the plastic casing is so slippery. Other than that, though, it's a very nicely made casing, and I feel like my phone is well-protected. I just wish it didn't feel like it's always threatening to slip out of my hand.
