I bought this item at a sprint store as a promotion. even though it was deeply discounted, i hardly pay over $200 for any speakers that wouldn't work for my djing company, but, i have to be honest, i was blown away by these speakers. I have a JBL Flip that has a great sound, but is missing a lower bass frequency. The Onyx more than makes up for that missing low frequency, plus its wireless.
I would recommend this to a friend!

No eq, goes to sleep when you don't want it to.

I bought this some year ago and it is mostly useless. I was going to use it as a kitchen radio but people talking sounds really bad in this speaker. You have to turn it up alot just to hear what they are saying. Music gets to much bass no matter where you place the speaker. The bass/treble knob that has been with us since the dawn of radios and music machines are not present here for some reason and the app that lets you configure the speaker is of no use to anybody.
When i connect the speaker by cable it goes to sleep as soon as it looses signal and take a while to wake up. That is annoying! The support is telling me to crank the volume on the input, a bad idea if you do not want bad sound and useless if you have a good source without noise in the background.
The wi-fi connectivity is good if you are willing to sacrifice the availability of internet. The bt is ok if you can stand going into the settings of your music device everytime you want to connect to the speaker. For me: I bought an old radio from the 70s and it is easy to plug into the ipad with a cable, it has a treble/bass knob, it never goes to sleep and the mid-range is better, it does not add a sense of "loudness" to my music and it was dirt cheap.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

This product is not a radio nor designed for radio. This product was developed for portability streaming music over WiFi or bluetooth. It has battery power save features and no equalization. The equalization would be adjustable using the source device player or third party apps. The audio quality is dependent on the audio content (format) sent from the source device. We do apologize for any inconvenience.

Bose vs. harman kardon

Harmon Kardon won! Ordered both and sent the Bose unit back. If higher quality sound is your priority, get this portable unit. Yes, this product is somewhat larger but it still blends in nicely anywhere in my home. Great on patio or anywhere in home when I don't want to use house system. Liked it so much, I gave five as Christmas gifts and it has been well received.

I've had my Onyx for 3 weeks now, still amazed every time I turn it on. I've tried just about everything out there, Big Jambox was the biggest sound I found. First saw this back in the fall and knew it was THE ONE. I was right. This speaker is amazing. The sound is exceptional at any volume level, and cranked up the bass feels like its going through you. It's a new level of sound for Bluetooth portable speakers. It is rather large to be very portable, but who cares? It's the sound that matters!! So I say skip everything else and spring for this, worth every cent.

Wow, talking about carrying a big stick. This system is small, powerful and clear. The bass booms with a clear sharp rumble. Perfect for Jazz.
