great camera with a lousy grip

I love Sony cameras, and the HX90 makes a great companion to my RX10. After four years and 3,000+ photos and movies with my HX9, the HX90 has several improvements. What isn't better is the weirdly-shaped front grip, the minuscule thumb pad and the lack of a rubber coating which, along with the plastic body, makes the camera seem cheap despite its hefty price and will take some getting used to.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I Purchased the camera and I am happy

Okay, some people write reviews about this camera without owning it. I found the zoom to be really good and meets my needs. The video recording aspect looks great but you cannot transfer it to your phone unless it is in the lowest quality setting MP4. The MP4 setting play back compared to the AVCHD is inferior and you will notice that so you probably will only record in the highest setting a minor disappointment. I like the fact that the flash will only flash when it is extended physically. The eye piece extends and you will use it 40 % of the time and is really needed. If this camera did not have it you would not know what your missing. You will want to always use the strap as I already almost dropped the camera in a reflex action by mistake ( the strap saved me). Rather than getting into technical analysis review which you will read about from sony and other sources I will tell you too buy this camera. It is small, it takes great photos, and you will use this camera everywhere you travel or just want to take casual photos. This camera replaced my video recorder which is big. The video is quality and you should see a improvement on video if your recorder is 4 years old or older. It will take you about about an hour to figure out how to transfer your photos to your phone wireless and you need to download this app called "playMemories Mobile" (Sony product and Its free). Sony could have done a better job on the transfer aspect software. Even though Sony makes it sound like the software for the transfer is simple my android smart phone did not want to connect initially and it took a while . Those kinks I had were resolved after about a hour of frustration. I still recommend this camera and maybe my frustrations with the software is a fluke. The fact is with smart phone cameras a standard camera would be hard to justify. WIth the HX 90v purchase it is justified 30 times zoom and video.. That being said my honest opinion is this camera is the best camera you can buy for sports (kids), family vacations and travel.

Finally, a camera meets all of my requirements!

I've looked at dozens of very good to excellent cameras that I had to dismiss for one reason or another: zoom too short, no VF, poor battery life, not pocket-able, astronomical cost, no built-in flash, quality/reliability problems, etc, etc. This is "my" camera, albeit, with minor compromises.
Longer battery life, RAW capability, a faster lens, and an even better hand grip are always nice things to have, but as I've indicated, I'm thrilled to have found this camera. "YAY!!

Pls Improve wind noise reduce function

Love this camera so much. only 1 improvement needed.
As a travel camera, we do outdoor movie clip as well.
But in some place outdoor, there are wind. so I hope can improve wind noise reduction function, as it was not perfect enough.

Received my camera and couldn't wait to play. I had read ALL the reviews and found the negatives to others didn't concern me. Weighs a bit more than I thought it would, but love the features and the quality of pictures. The 180 viewing screen is one of my favorite features. It is an advanced 'idot' camera if you want a straight point and shot you do not need all the features this camera has.

I bought this camera to be serve as a light and small camera that is a step-up from a point-and-shoot. The camera impresses me greatly. The image quality is incredible. The normal digital camera functionality is excellent. The additional features such as video, manual programming, and wifi are astounding.
