Although I understand they don't make this item any longer, it's a shame. After I bought the first one, I was so impressed I bought another one to use out on my patio. Great, great little speaker with good sounds! Price was good too through Amazon.

The Dock that turns itself off

I bought the JBL OnBeat Micro dock a few days ago.
It's esthetically very nice, and produces decent sound. I could even live with its super short lightning connector (got an extension to be able to plug in iPhone 6 without removing it from the case). But one "feature" is a total deal breaker - auto standby mode.
After a few minutes of "inactivity" the dock switches itself off. Well, OK, except it still owns iPhone audio, so you can not hear any sounds that may come later, such as alarms and notifications. This is a really big deal for me. There are some notifications on the iPhone that I must not miss, even during the night. But the OnBeat Micro dock makes my iPhone silent.
JBL engineers should have at least made the device wake up on sound, or have a switch to turn the auto-standby off. They don't.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great little product

Just bought an Onbeat Micro in the UK and having worked for competitors of JBL most of my life I don't give this review easily, but I just have to say this is a great little product. You can hear it comes from a real loudspeaker manufacturer. I bought it to use with the latest iPod Touch and it does everything I wanted and hoped - easily the best sounding small iPod dock and excellent value for money.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Can't use iPhone 5 with a case!

I purchased the JBL Onbeat Micro & returned it. I used it briefly to listen to my audiobook on my iPhone 5 & enjoyed the sound quality. However, it’s not designed to be used with a case. I have a Noreve flip case (rail system) where the cover flips back behind the phone that allows full access to the phone’s speakers & lighting port. The phone within the case fits on the base, but leans far forward at an angle making it difficult to see& operate the phone. The mechanism that the lighting pin is connected to does move forward & backwards, which is why the phone & case leans forward. However, there isn’t enough space behind the lightening connector to allow a backward lean. (Look at the detailed picture on Apple’s site).
My husband’s iPhone 5 is in a “bumper” type case. This set up didn’t work at all. The JBL’s lighting connector it too short & doesn't connect.
JBL OnBeat Micro Speaker has a nice compact footprint, appears sturdy & well built. And from the brief time “listening” to my audiobook, the sound quality was great. I’m just not willing to remove my phone from its case each time to use it.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The On Beat Micro arrived yesterday. It took about 5 minutes to unpack, put in the batteries and get the unit working. My wife uses her iPhone 5 all the time to listen to music and radio stations. The sound coming out of this relatively small package is outstanding even on battery power. And when on AC power the device charges the phone which she likes very much. If you use a case with your phone you'll most likely have to use a cable to connect to the USB port but that is really not a hassle.
I would recommend this to a friend!

A Portable Concert!

I have read a few disturbing reviews. Theres the one where the lady says that you have to use batteries with the electric adapter and the batteries run down and theres a lot of static. Well the truth is you can use your Onbeat Micro without batteries and believe me the sound is awesome for the size & price!
With batteries the convenience of 5 hours of playing time is an added bonus.
Now here's the real deal, listening to the Onbeat Micro unit is like being at a private concert, and the sound attracts others to it. The mid range allows for clearly defined vocals and there just enough bass to feel the righteous groove of the music. The highs are so crisp and real that you can hear the fingers of the guitar player as he uses the frets on his instrument (acoustically).
The charging of the Iphone is another wonderful bonus! I'd like to suggest that before anyone writes a review to first review the instructions. And then follow them properly.
Theres nothing worst than a "bad review" on a great product!
JBL You ROCK!!! Literally.
