Could not have been easier on Vista (SP1).
Plug it into the printer and the computer. It installs the driver and the printer is ready to go.
This was on an HP 2100 series LaserJet TN and Vista SP1.
What's great about it: It Works!
What's not so great: Price is a little high, but worth it if it does the job
I would recommend this to a friend!

cord is great about the right length, bad part about the product was the installation instructions. The cable did not come with a driver cd, and the instructions did not allow the cable to interface the computer and printer together. I had to go to another manufactures web site to get instructions that were specific enough to allow me to make the connection and have the printer work properly. Even best buy geeks did not know how to make it work.
What's great about it: works as advertised
What's not so great: instructions for installation
I would recommend this to a friend!

After driving 250 miles to the Best Buy in Farmington and this was the only usb to parallel cable they had. However this only works on Centronics 36 pin parallel connectors NOT regular 25 pin printer parallel cables. So after opening it 250 miles later, it didn't fit at all on any of 3 old printers and a scanner.
What's not so great: doesn't fit most printers
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

plugged this cable into my old hp 722c printer and my dell inspiron running vista, installed printer to usb from new hardware prompt, and started printing.
i bought an open package off the rack for 50% off, $14.99 instead of $29.99, so i'm very happy.
What's great about it: it works
What's not so great: i could use a shorter cable
