1. You need to download the Latest from http://www.prolific.com.tw/support/files/%5CIO%20Cable%5CPL-2303%5CDrivers%20-%20Generic%5CWindows%5Callinone%5CPL2303_Prolific_DriverInstaller_v110.zip
2. It will work the first time you installed. Later if you reboot (after using it with an app) , windows will not load the driver.
3. I have an app running for 5 min (this app works with other serial ports) and crash the machine (Screen Blue of Death).
What's great about it: It is USB
What's not so great: DOes not work with Vista
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Purchased the cable today, and it works great with my Garmin etrex Venture and Windows Vista.
What's great about it: Easy to use
What's not so great: Unable to tighten serial conection
I would recommend this to a friend!

Didnt work for my application but was very easy to configure, would have loved to have this a year ago for another situation
What's great about it: easy to setup
What's not so great: a bit pricey and a little long for an adapter
I would recommend this to a friend!

This product will work just as designed IF you download a driver for it. Make sure you search search PL2303 driver. HUGE thanks to : Tominillinois for the driver tip!!!.

This would have gotten all excelents if not for the length of the cable. Fortunately I have plenty of USB extension cables as I needed this for configuring a switch located at the top of the rack. All in all it works like advertised, and provides me with a way to configure switches without a serial port on my laptop.
What's great about it: Provides a serial connection from newer computers.
What's not so great: The usb cable is short so you need an extension if you are not right next to the port.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Bought this to work with a Uniden NASCAR Scanner to program easier for race weekends (Go #14 Smoke!) which only came with an old-school serial cable. Needed this USB converter cable to plug into my computer and it worked great with my scanner and computer. Only downside is the cable it a bit expensive, IMO.
What's great about it: Works well
What's not so great: A bit expensive.
