My Dell Ultrabook doesn't have a serial port, and I needed to configure some Cisco switches. This USB / Serial adaptor did the trick just fine on Windows 7 64 bit. For the driver I matched the PCI ID to get an OEM driver for the chipset used I the adaptor. Works great with Putty!

And amazingly enough I was even able to get it to work through a windows virtual host with a linux guest inside - worked for controlling network gear using the serial console port. Very established chipset works really well with CentOS.

Not with Vista 64-bit

Sadly this device did not work with my recently purchased laptop running Windows Vista 64-bit. The driver provided on the CD appeared to work fine. And my Garmin software recognized the eTrex Vista GPS. But when it came time to transfer information from the GPS to Windows, it failed.
I've read about driver issues with 64-bit, so I've made the assumption that is the problem.
What's not so great: Doesn't work with Vista 64-bit
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Try to finder drivers for your OS before you buy,they may not exist for your OS!
What's great about it: no drivers for any OS from this millenium
What's not so great: essentially it is unusable, unless you use windows 98

Thanks to PapaSound for the instructions on downloading the right driver. If you follow his instructions it will work the frist time. Great product. Will use this brand again.

Overpriced and no driver support for Win 7

I search for about 30 minutes for Win 7 drivers on the internet which seemed to install, but didn't work for me in HyperTerminal. The following day I found a different USB to serial product at small business local store for less then half the price and this product came with Win 7 drivers.
What's great about it: Seems to be physicall built good
What's not so great: No Win 7 drivers
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I purchased this cable hoping it would solve my problem. However, after getting home and 6 hours later...I found out that this cable is not suitable for Vista users. This information should be listed on the front and back of its packaging label. I happen to read the PDF manual which states that it was NOT compatabile with Vista. POOR LABELING!!! WHAT A WAIT OF TIME!!!
