Often freezes and requires unplugging and plugging in to work again. No flash player on the internet browser so its impossible to play TV shows through the browser. Directions on how to use this system are basically non-existent. 2D to 3D conversion does not seem to work either.

Decent player

I bought the BDP-S6500 to use with the newly released Sony HT-ST9 Soundbar. Setup was simple. The unit is attractive, although I was underwhelmed considering this is the flagship model. Front panel buttons feel cheap, and there are no status indicators beyond a green power LED. Because there is no visual feedback in response to pressing "play", "stop" or "power", it's unclear what mode the system is in. So, if the TV screen is blank, it's unclear whether the Blu-Ray player is powered down, or stopped, or the TV input is not set correctly. Because it is sluggish powering on/off, it would be helpful if the power LED shut off immediately after the user commands the player to power down, giving visual feedback.
Picture quality is quite good. CD audio sounds good, and the on-screen GUI is attractive well thought out. The gracenote feature was unable to retrieve album/song titles for CDs I tested. It is odd that it won't automatically start playing a CD or DVD after closing the tray; considering the lack of a "play" button on the front panel, this capability should be added.
The remote is poor. It's unable to power on/off non-Sony TVs, and the "input" and "volume" buttons don't control a directly connected Sony Soundbar, which would be nice. Having "subtitle" and "netflix" buttons on the remote is very handy. The DVD tray automatically opens when powered down, making removal of the disk convenient. The Netflix GUI is good, and displays program viewing status and synopsis info clearly. While accessing the Netflix screen is sluggish, subsequent navigation is acceptably responsive.

The unit refuses to turn on after days of used. Did the firmware update. Still, I had to unplug it in other for the unit to turn on.

Bought this to go with out new 4k, 3D tv. Like the picture well enough, however we just recently bought our first 4k move, and it will not play the disc. Thought maybe that movie was junk, so bought a second one and it won't play that either. Bought the device at Thanksgiving for a Christmas present, so warranty will not cover this to be corrected. :(

Finally satisfied with a smart Blu-ray player

My prior Blu-ray purchase manufacturer I won't name was a total flop as far as a smart player. This smart player is everything I've expected and more the WiFi connection works every time, sound quality and picture are outstanding. I would highly recommend this product to any one in the market for a new Blu-ray player.
