Just bought this unit and it is easy to setup. I bought it because my kids are all off on their own and I do not play may games on the PS3. I have HBOGo on the PS3 so I thought I would give this unit a try and potentially give the PS3 to my son. I quickly found there is no HBOGo. The web browser does not support the HBO Go site, which was a bummer.
I will this unit away and get a Samsung blu ray - it seems Samsung is doing a better job at making the product experiences seamless
We had purchased a new 65 inch 4k SUHD tv of another brand other then Sony. So we purchased a new Blu Ray player of the same brand to upconvert to 4k. This Blu Ray was more expensive then the Sony, but was the same brand as the tv. After spending the time to connect and program the Blu Ray, we discovered that it would play digital discs only. We called customer support and they were no help. the representative kept telling us that our discs were recorded in the wrong format!!!!!! We returned this player and purchased the Sony BDP-s6500 model. very easy to connect and program, played all our Blu Rays 1st attempt. Excellent picture and easy to use.
This has more options than we need such as internet ability for web access, Netflix, etc. We have a smart TV that we use for those options. We had no choice but to buy this Blu-ray player so we could take advantage of the best picture quality of our ultra HD TV. Blu-ray is best for viewing on our ultra HD TV, so we didn't want a DVD player, even with HD upgrade ability. Wish the electronic stores stocked basic Blu-ray players.

Misleading Advertisement on Box

I've had this player for about a year and all has been fine until I decided to buy a 4K Ultra HD Blue Ray Movie to see what the difference was in the picture. Much to my surprise, the Player wouldn't load the 4K Ultra HD disc. I went through all the manual information and found out, inspite of the Advertisement on the Box, I mistakenly took to mean it would play 4K Ultra HD movies, that it doesn't play 4K Ultra HD movies. What the add means is that if you play a Blue-Ray movie, it allegedly upgrades the picture to what should be 4K Ultra HD quality. It that's what it does, I guess it works as I have nothing but Sony's information to base it on. Not happy as I already had another BLUE_RAY player and thought I was getting one that would play the 4K Ultra HD. It doesn't.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Hi RobertWhitton, this player will only upscale the picture to near 4K quality and we apologize if it misleads you. Below are the 4K players that are designed for 4K playback.
Very easy to use, Very quick to skip to chapters, it is just the easiest and quickest DVD player I have ever owned. I would recommend.

Small size fast loaded is great. So far have not been able to get it to output HD audio (Dolby True HD and/or DTS HD master audio).

Hello sgtkmk! We would like to recommend to change the following settings on your Blu-ray player's menu if the content you are watching through the unit provides a Dolby true HD or DTS quality:
- Press the HOME button on the remote commander while the unit is ON. - Press the LEFT ARROW until you select the SETUP icon. - Press the DOWN ARROW until you find the AUDIO SETTINGS option, press the ENTER. - Select the option for Digital Audio Output and make sure it is set to AUTO, then press ENTER. - Select BD Audio MIX Setting, and turn option OFF, then press ENTER.. - Select Dolby D Compatible Output and turn option OFF, then press ENTER.. - Select Audio DRC and turn option OFF, then press ENTER. - Select Downmix and change option to Surround, then press ENTER.
