Worth it's price!!

I love this lens. My friend bought an offbrand, that claimed to be the same. It is't. Clear, precise, powerful.
I raise dogs. Most of my customers are from out of state. I must take great photos that represent my pups as they truly are. I then place them on my website. This lens does it.
I would recommend this to a friend!

I love canon, but this lens is not their best work. I have had the auto focus and the image stabilizer broken on it numerous times. It has spent more time in the repair shop then in my camera bag.
Pros: good price
Cons: lots of fixes
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Disappointed in this Lens

Of all the Canon products I have purchased (three camera bodies, five lenses, and a printer) this lens is the one product that has not lived up to my expectations. I found it nearly impossible to get a focused and stable shot. Every now and then it would produce a good shot but most were not acceptable.
For the first year or so I thought it was a lack of skill on my part. I did not think it was a malfunctioning autofocus motor or image stabilization system. After two years of difficulty using the lens I took it to a camera shop and they checked it out. What they told me is that both the IS motor and Autofocus motors were not working or malfunctioning.
As I reflect on it, I think those systems were never functioning adequately from the start. I had thought it was my inability to use this lens proficiently. It now seems more likely that it was a malfunctioning lens all along. Since then I have purchased a non-Canon brand long lens with which I am able to take terrific photos that I would have like to have captured with my original 70-300 mm lens. It now clear that my skill level was never the problem with my use of the 70-300mm lens.
While my experience with this lens is not good, I have had great experiences with four other Canon lenses in my camera bag and my camera body is Canon. I will continue to buy Canon products. But cannot recommend this particular lens.

Not sharp

This lens works well for shots that are close. Zoomed all the way out nothing is sharp. It's not much good for long distance bird shots. I also think it is a bit slow on the auto focus which I could live with if the pictures were sharp. Mostly a costly disappointment.
Pros: Superior build quality
Cons: Semi-sharp images
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

It does what it does.A little less than what I've come to expect from canon.Pic quality is sub standered at full zoom.It suits my needs but I would check out all options before buying.
Cons: Semi-sharp images

Very unsatisfied

This lense will not focus when zoomed at 300mm. Most pictures are blurry. I have an efs 55mm to 250 mm that blows the socks off of this one and costed half as much. I expected more from Canon than what i got.
Cons: Semi-sharp images
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Great Value

Wasn't using my 70-200 2.8 because it was too heavy. Bought the original 70-300 but lens creep drove me nuts. This lens satisfies my long lens no tripod requirements. Well built, relatively light weight and sharp enough. Autofocus constantly dropping lock, have to use manual much of the time. Lens of this caliber needs USM.
Pros: Superior build quality, relatively light weight, lens lock a plus, above average sharpness
Cons: Slow auto-focus, needs usm
I would recommend this to a friend!
