The Best Zoom Lens EVER made... by ANYONE!!!!

This lens is simply the finest zoom lens ever made. I've owned several lenses in this range and have used many more - including Leicas, Nikkors, Sigmas, and other Canons. This is the sharpest 70-200mm f/4 of them all, and is in fact sharper (wide open at f/4) than even f/2.8's I've tried including the Canon 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM.
Its a great value, the image quality is without equal in this focal range, and the colors are crisp and contrasty. And theres the added benefit of it being much lighter than the f/2.8L's by a whole 1.5 pounds. Over the course of a long day of shooting that extra weight will fatigue you.
The build quality is perfect if you ask me. The zoom ring is completely smooth which makes flashzoom shots a breeze, also any kind of zooming shot will have smoother zoom streaks. The focus ring is buttery smooth as well, making tack sharp manual a breeze as well. The 4-Stop IS works flawlessly making shots @ 200mm at speeds as long as 1/25 and 1/15 even possible.
The only perceivable con is that you might not like the white/beige lens barrel or lack of an included tripod collar. I like the color as it doesn't absorb heat as much as black does making it a bit cooler to the touch on a long hot day of shooting outside. The tripod collar you don't really need as the lens is light and very well balanced, but it would be a nice detail to include in the price.
Pros: Super-sharp images, Superior build quality, Fast auto-focus, 4-stop is, super smooth focus ring, super smooth zoom ring

Excellent Tele-Zoom

I enjoy using this lens for outdoor portrait photography, some wildlife and selective landscape photography. I've had many good indoor shots as well. The autofocus is fast and silent, the image sharpness is INCREDIBLE. The most surprising feature is how lightweight this lens is, despite feeling well built. At half the weight of the f/2.8 version, this one is easily handheld. Use a 1.4x or 2x extender for longer range. I also like the included lens hood.
Pros: image quality, lightweight

Others have probably summed this lens up pretty well, but I LOVE THIS LENS! I have been using Canon SLR's since the late 1970's and have always been a big fan. I made the switch to digital in 2011 and have the 7D and 5D Mark 3. Both are super cameras and each lens I have is like having two when you consider the 1.6 crop factor of the 7D. I also have and love the 1.4x extender. On the 7D you now have a 480mm equivalent! Great for sports! I was strictly a prime lens guy for most all the years I have been shooting. I loved my Canon 200mm f2.8 lens! With this lens, I am now a huge zoom fan. This lens is just a super compact size and very light weight. Personally, I would choose it over the 2.8 model unless I really needed the speed or really shallow DOF. It is tack sharp and super easy to use. I love how the lens does not extend when you zoom. Always the same size and about half the weight and price of the 2.8 model. Aside from the excellent quality, what I like most is the size and weight. I can get this and my 24-70 f4 easily into a small bag and this is my go to run and gun package. I have several primes, but find myself not using them at all with these two excellent lenses. Buy one! You will love it!
Pros: Fast auto-focus, Superior build quality, Super-sharp images
Cons: none!

Such amazing lens i love the sharpness i tried to compare two lenses F2.8 and F4 and to tell you the truth F4 have much sharper images! perfect for portrait nature and any kind of photography!!!
weights 3 times less then 2.8 and gives you much more than 2.8. less expensive and sharper!!!
IS works amazingly good!!!Autofocus is really fast and lens by itself have metal housing sealed good from dust and water.Comes with case and hood. if you are thinking about purchasing 70-200mm get F4.0!!! i tried both and 4.0 is newer and better!!! By the way in Low light works perfect! add some Iso And You are good!!!
TOTALLY LOVE THIS ONE!!!
Pros: Fast auto-focus, Superior build quality, Super-sharp images, durable

This was my 2nd L lens purchase. I was told that it was an awesome lens so I purchased one. It was light years ahead of the other lenses that I had before. Great color ,contrast and sharp too. This lens was a work horse for me fot 10 years until I upgraded to the 70-200 is ii version. I would highly recommend thid lens to anyone.

My Favorite and Most Reliable Lens

I have had 70-200L lenses for the past 8 years starting with a f4L non-IS. Around 2 years ago I upgraded to the f4L IS version. I was highly impressed with the colors and sharpness on my original 70-200 but my IS copy makes those look dull and soft. The IS, despite being one of Canon's older IS technologies, does make a difference.
As for the sharpness, it really can't be beat. My 70-200 is perfect proof as to why this range lens is regarded as one of Canon's best L zoom lenses on the market. I have found it to be sharpest between f/7.1-9, but have had no issues with the sharpness even when being used wide open at that f/4.
I personally recommend this lens to anyone and everyone. If you don't have a 70-200 L in your gear bag, you really are missing out.

Amazing lens

I bought this lens last year and WOW. I chose the f/4 IS over the other versions of the 70-200 by Canon for several reasons. The first being the weight compared to the f/2.8 is roughly half of the IS II version (1.68lbs vs 3.29lbs). The second reason being the image quality. After reading around and looking at tests the f/4 IS version is the second in sharpness only to the flagship 2.8 IS II version in the Canon lineup. It does very well wide open at f/4. The image quality as well as the Image stabilization are well worth the difference from the non-IS f/4 and f2.8. The IS is fantastic and keeps images sharp. It doesn't come with a tripod collar but it isn't needed because it is so light. I use it all the time on my tripod with no problems just using the camera mount. Color rendition is wonderful as well. Certainly a giant step above the 70-300 f/4-5.6 IS I replaced. If you are an outdoor photographer and need a telephoto zoom this is your lens. I have used it for some outdoor portrait work as well and the bokeh was fantastic. Just a great lens.
Pros: Fast auto-focus, Superior build quality, Super-sharp images, lightweight, price
Cons: none

Great Lense

I was a bit hesitant at first to spend so much on a lense, but after experimenting with the lense for a day it was worth every penny. The images are extremely sharp. The auto focus on the lense is lightning quick. After buying this lense I am a true believer of the L lenses and this lense has convinced me to only buy L lenses in the future.
Pros: Super-sharp images, Superior build quality, Fast auto-focus
Cons: non found
