Good choice per consumer's report

Bought this because it was among the top 3 recommendations by Consumer's Report, best priced among them. Like it. We noticed a reduction in humidity in the basement the very first day. For the first couple of weeks, the air stunk quite noticeably while it was drying the basement. We cleaned the filter and the smell completely went away, so maybe the smell was from the water. Nice that the filter is washable. No need to spend more money on purchasing filters. It does not come with a hose, you have to purchase that separately. So we emptied bucket after bucket. Two or three buckets a day, until it had done its job and reduced the humidity a great deal. It is a bit noisy, so I rated it 3. But we are happy to have it and it seems to be pretty easy on electric wattage use. I like the fact that it is energy star rated, too. We first bought a dehumidifier for our cottage on the lake and noticed a spike in the electric bill, so I decided to go the extra money for an energy star model this time and think it was well worth it.

I bought this unit a month ago to replace a similar Frigidaire unit that lasted several years longer than other units I purchased, which lasted only approx. 1.5 years apiece.

I only ran my new dehumidifier for a few weeks before our humidity-in-the-basement season ended, but I look forward to putting it through its paces next spring and summer. So far, so good. It did a good job of removing humidity. I tried both letting the bucket fill up and using the drainage hose, and both methods worked well. The drainage hose attachment process was SO easy compared to other units I've had. It also has easy-to-understand controls and runs relatively quietly. My main objective in buying this large single unit was to lower my electricity bill, since the two smaller units I was using seemed to be breaking the bank. I'll try to report back next year on whether or not it met my goal. In the meantime, I'll give 4 stars, meaning only that nothing has gone wrong yet and I'm optimistic about what the future may hold.

I bought this dehumidifier to replace an old one that just gave out! Right now we have to empty the bucket when it is full but will try to relocate it where a hose can drain it. OK, so far, haven't had time to review for longer teem operation.
