TestmanIvy, thank you for sharing your dehumidifier experience with us. It is normal for your appliance to make some noise when in use. Sounds can come from the compressor turning on and pulling moisture from the air. When operating it is normal to hear the fan rotating when will sound like forced air coming out of a vent. (swirling or swooshing sound). The compressor may turn on, with a click noise, which is normal. It is typical to hear water “dripping” into the bucket as it is pulling moisture from the air. If you are hearing a “buzzing” noise this is most likely coming from the compressor and may indicate the unit is “seizing up” or “locking up” from running too much at too low of a RH% level. Please unplug the unit and let it cool down, then set it for a higher RH% level and run for another 24 hours to watch for more noises. Here are some conditions that can impact running times. In moderately damp conditions (60-70%humidity in the room), your 70 pint dehumidifier is capable of handling 1500 square feet of area. If the area is damper or larger, the appliance will run longer. If the dehumidifier is in the continuous mode it will run all the time. Air movement through dehumidifier could be blocked. The grill may be dirty, gently use the brush attachment on vacuum cleaner to clean grill. Dehumidifier must be placed in a space that does not restrict air flowing into the rear coil or out of the front grill.
