Great Appliance with a Major Flaw!

I’ve purchased three (3) of these Frigidaire - FAD704DWD now and love how the dehumidifier removes moisture from the air! It pulls at a fairly fast rate and it makes a BIG difference in the areas I employ them. Based on the time I run three dehumidifiers concurrently, I average a total of 12 gallons of water removal per day. They shut off when the bucket fills-up as there isn’t anyone around at times to empty them. I empty them multiple times per day. The dehumidifiers aren’t overly noisy, although they do run a motor and compressor, so they aren’t audibly invisible. They are reasonably small for the task they perform and their plain appearance doesn’t attract a lot of attention. My one BIG COMPLAINT is that the catch-bucket is poorly designed. While the two gallons of water that it holds weigh-in at 16.4 pounds, the plastic handle that supports that weight while one empties it has two flimsy plastic tabs that hold the assembly together. One day while emptying the bucket, the tabs broke and the two gallons of water went crashing to the ground, cracking the bucket and soaking the carpet. That also rendered the dehumidifier unusable! If the manufacturer would strengthen the handle’s construction, the appliance would be awesome. Since that time, I’ve treated all of my dehumidifiers with extra care while emptying the water. I go easy on the handles and minimize the forces when emptying them. So far, they are holding up. For those who plan to use a hose drain instead of the bucket, there should be no problems, though I’ve never used that feature.

works wonderfully, quiet and efficient

I purchased this dehumidifier this summer and am thrilled with it. We are using it in our basement which is half basement, half crawlspace and it has kept the whole basement very dry, It has been a very humid hot summer and I couldn't be happier. Thank goodness we have it or all of our belongings down there would have been ruined.

Works at full capacity

When I received this unit my old unit had been broken for awhile. My basement was about 75 degrees and 80% humidity. I have a lot of money in musical equipment in my basement so I needed something that would pull the humidity down. From what I understand these units are rated at 100% humidity. With my basement at 80% it was removing 70 pints in 24 hours so I was very pleased that it was working to capacity. I have about 1200 sq feet and it took about 2 days to get the humidity down to 50%. Since I haven't had it for a long time I can't speak to its reliability.

This is the second one I used and is a replacement for the first. The compressor went out on the first one and the second one is starting the same problem. I think the unit does a good job but there seems to be a serious problem with the compressor.

In 23 years, I have purchased about 8 dehumidifiers for my basement. The first two dehumidifiers lasted 5 years each. (They had five year warrantees on the compressor) The next few had two year warrantees, and you guessed it, they only lasted two years each. I currently have four dehumidifiers sitting in my basement one Frigidaire purchased in June 2014 is working. One Frigidaire purchased in May 2014 runs but no water is extracted. It freezes up. One Danby purchased three years ago runs, but no water is extracted and there is another Frigidaire that also stopped extracting water after two years. Basement is unfinished and about 1000 square feet. Temperature gets in the 50's in the coldest part of winter. I run it about 9 months per year except the winter. I am trying to figure out where to take the ones that don't work. I will try another brand for my next one.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Our wet basement is now a pleasant place to be. This unit has really done the job. And I don't hear it form upstairs at all, though our house is pretty solid.

Great product

We bought this dehumidifier for our basement. My wife had started noticing unpleasant odors in the basement of our newly purchased house. After much research I decided on this model. I couldn't be happier. After two days no more odors. After three days the basement was at a very nice 35% RH. I love the clean filter reminder light and that you have the option of connecting a hose so you don't have to empty the collection vessel.
I would recommend this to a friend!
