Beautiful Look and Perfect (almost) Functionality

We've had our refrigerator for about a month and love it. The fit and finish is top notch and it is SO quiet when the compression switches on you hardly notice it. The interior lighting when we open the French doors is like having a sun inside. Unfortunately, that isn't true of the two freezer drawers. There is minimal light for the upper drawer and no light for the lower. That's fine during the day, but in the middle of the night when I'm secretly raiding the freezer for ice cream, well...
Now for a couple other minor irritations. First, the narrow (2") piece that is attached to the left door and seals the gap between the two doors when they are closed. If you open only the left door, you must manually push the seal into place before the door will close. (Either that or you must open the right door.) That seems cumbersome and to me is a slight design flaw. The second issue is that you must open both doors in order to pull out the crisper drawer on the right side. (That isn't true of the left crisper drawer.) Again, that strikes me as a slight design issue.
Okay, those nit-picky issues aside, this is an amazing refrigerator. There's enough room inside to hide an elephant and the front display is perfect. Oh, and I love the size and shape of the ice cubes! Buy it, you'll love it!

Excellent 32 inch replacement refrigerator!
on August 1, 2015

from Nutley, NJ, USA
Our old built-in 32 inch wide refrigerator had provided many years of faithful service but the automatic ice maker had begun to fail and when I diagnosed the problem online it was determined that the ice maker had to be replaced. In looking at the cost of a replacement ice maker vs. the value of the old refrigerator, it was clear that a new refrigerator had to be considered. In researching refrigerators in Consumer Reports, three facts became apparent: (1) LG was always a top rated brand, (2) 32 inch wide refrigerators were no longer popular in quality refrigeration and (3) LG was one of the few manufactures who still offered a 32 inch refrigerator which meet our functionality requirements.
The LG refrigerator was ordered from a local retailer with whom we have dealt for over 40 years. When the refrigerator was delivered, it was discovered that the cabinet above the old refrigerator was installed 1/16 inch to low, which worked for the old refrigerator which was shorter; the new LG was within specifications. Fortunately the cabinet above the refrigerator alcove had some extra wood at the bottom. The cabinet was quickly unscrewed from the wall and using a mini-power saw the extra sliver wood was removed to yield an invisible repair. This was my error as I should have checked the height first. Always check all the dimensions when dealing with old construction!
The existing connection to the water line was the 1/4 inch flexible copper pipe which LG recommend in the Owner’s Manual. Fortunately the copper pipe was damaged when the old refrigerator was removed and had to be replaced. When I check the plumbing code for my state, I found that a braded stainless-steel shielded plastic pipe is now legal in many states including New Jersey. Yes, flexible copper pipe is legal in all 50 states but may no longer be the best option. LG should update their Owner’s Manual to include newer plumbing options when legal.
When the new LG refrigerator was operational, I was concerned about the small size of the ice maker but these concerns were quickly found to be groundless. Our new LG refrigerator’s ice making capacity is more than adequate for normal use and extra ice can be manufactured and stored in the oversized freezer compartment for large family gatherings. The ergonomic design of the LG refrigerator is a delight and even after two months of service I keep discovering new features. The cold water dispenser is now a must-have and the oversize storage capacity in the doors makes access to frequently needed items much easier. The old refrigerator was always out of capacity, which is no longer a problem with the LG. I would highly recommend an LG refrigerator to anyone.

Super noisy!

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We bought this June 2015 and after about a month we called to have it checked because the motor was so loud. When the LG repairman came out it wouldn't make the same noise (of course-until he left). He told me that it's supposed to be louder because of the compressor. Ten months later it's worse. We rearrange things frequently to see if we can stop the vibration and rattling of the items inside. Other LG owners I know don't have this problem. I'm going to call again to see if there is anyone who can help, and I hope I'm not given the run-around. If it isn't fixed it should be replaced. We have been too nice about this.

Like the fridge - until it died
on July 22, 2019

We liked the fridge, but the LG support/warranty department has been poor! Had the fridge less than 2 years and it completely stopped cooling. June 25 – Called LG support – they were helpful to start and scheduled one of their authorized repair companies to look at it June 26 - Repair company came and said the compressor was bad and needed a few other parts - all under warranty. July 12 - (Took more than 2 weeks to get the parts). Tech came to do the repair and found a nick in the refrigeration line that had obviously been there from the factory (was enclosed behind a piece of the housing). He said it was non-repairable because it is a closed system. He told me he would submit it to LG but to prove it, he needed to charge it with Freon and some type of dye to verify where and how bad the leak was - someone would have to come again in a few days to look at it. "It should get cold for a while, but don't put anything in it that would go bad if it stops again." Of course this was a Friday so another weekend without a fridge! It was slightly cooler that night, but by the morning was back to room temperature. July 15 - The repair company reported their findings, including photos, as well as the fact that it didn't even work for 1 night. July 16 - LG support told me that they had the info and it would be reviewed within 48 hours. Once they verified it, someone from the Defective/Replacement department would contact me to arrange a replacement. July 18 - Repair company told me that LG wanted them to cut the line where the hole is and solder in a new piece. The tech said he didn't want to do that because it was not safe. They told me they have spent hours on the phone (mostly on hold) trying to get LG to do the right thing and replace the unit. July 19 - I called LG Customer Support and they say they can't do anything because it has to go through their technical/engineering people. I asked to be connected to them and was told that they couldn't do that and that even they weren't able to contact them. July 22 - 4 weeks without a fridge! Still waiting for anyone from LG to contact me about how they are going to resolve it.

I had to send two of this model back

I love LG products, but this model fridge did not work out...twice. The first one we had delivered was very loud and made things inside vibrate. But I like LG products, so I decided to simply have it returned for another of the same model. The same delivery guys bought the replacement out and said, "Wow, that fridge is LOUD."
The replacement was set up and shortly thereafter, we started hearing a very noticeable high-pitched tone coming from it...the kind of noise that would run dogs off. So, we decided against this model and called and had them bring a different model LG. So far, this new model (a side-by-side LSXS22423) has been great...and quiet.

Great Features but Breaks Quickly
on June 12, 2020

I have this refrigerator for 3 years. We loved a lot of the features and the ice dispenser being in the door. However good features don't matter when it stops working after 3 years. It stopped working around a week ago and finding anyone to work on it has been impossible. Start googling and find out this is a common problem. This is our newest appliance in the house and the first to break. We will not be purchasing an LG appliance again.

Door-in-Door feature is outstanding!
on January 21, 2015

While most of the features of this excellent refrigerator are common these days, the "Door-In-Door" feature of the 27cuft French door unit is simply outstanding. It is unique and we find it extremely useful. Not only does it keep the chilled air and external airflow constrained, it quickly refurbishes the small area to coldness due to the cold heat sink in the front door. We keep the most used items (jams, dressings, butter, drinks, etc.) in the removable sections and they literally present themselves for quick use. The only short coming is common to all modern refrigs: inadequate tall item areas (with the resulting blocking of access to 1/2 of a shelf) and the EC/DC compressor which can get noisy at times. I strongly encourage purchase of this machine.
Pros: Features/Settings, Quality, quick access area

Failed in less than 1 year

I loved this refrigerator until it stopped working only 7 months after it was installed. If they had fixed it promptly it would have been ok, but couldn't get a repair appointment until 2 weeks later. And then they couldn't fix it and had to come back 10 days after that. Very disappointing experience given that this is a very expensive refrigerator. Will not buy an LG appliance again
