Great printer/fax/scanner/copier
on August 30, 2013

Full disclosure: I will only buy Canon printers because I've had such good service from both the printers and the tech support people. The support people are terrific. Print is crisp, photos are good, controls are clear and easy to use, printer is responsive, setup is pretty easy, scanner is excellent, fax works great, installation of drivers was painless. Our daughter was visiting, working on some documents (she's a high-end copy editor) that needed to be scanned. She was really pleased with the quality of the scans. I recently did a mail merge of a letter and envelopes. Even though it doesn't have a separate feeder, it worked flawlessly. Put me down as a satisfied customer.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, durable, High Quality Output, easy to use
Cons: no 2nd document feeder
I would recommend this to a friend!

Is never online
on December 2, 2013

Whenever I want to use it, it won't show to be online. It is always, always offline. I can spend a good 30 minutes each time trying to get a document to print. I've used it about a dozen times at this point and it now claims to be out of ink. It is becoming completely useless to me, and I'm sorry I ever bought this one. When it does print, the quality is nice - it's just getting to that point that will cause all the cursing.
Pros: High Quality Output
Cons: Difficult to use, Large Footprint, Difficult Setup, unreliable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Off Line Issues

This printer goes to sleep and goes "off line" be sure to read the review about this issue, which I did before purchasing. Its not a great printer when you can not print when you need to and spend your time trying to trouble shoot the issue.
Cons: Difficult to use, unreliable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Worked OK while it lasted

I've been a loyal Canon owner for 20 years: cameras, scanners, and printers. I've been happy with their longevity and reliability at a reasonable price point. When my old multifunction Canon printer finally stopped printing I shopped around and decided on the MX922. It was bigger than what I was looking for but had the features I wanted. When installing the drivers it also installed a photo/document management/editing tool that took a couple of minutes to launch and was difficult to navigate. I uninstalled it. I do mostly scanning and the duplex scanning feature worked very well and returned very good quality PDFs. I don't do much printing but while it worked, both simplex and duplex worked well and the print quality was good. Printed 1 picture that came out nicely. After 5 months a paper jammed in the machine on the second pass of duplexing the page. It was normal 20# paper. I followed the manufacturer's online instructions to pull the page from the back access area. Since as there is no way to release the interior rollers, the paper still tore off in the machine to the point it required professional service. The paper was so deep in the machine it could not be removed without tearing down the whole machine resulting in a bill that will be more than the cost of buying a new printer. Very disappointing and unexpected from Canon.
Pros: good quality pdfs and printed pages., easy to set up and use, auto-feeder for scanner for simplex and duplex
Cons: hard to service when needed, document/photo management software slow to launch
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Outstanding features/performance

Hard to believe that all the reviewers who pan this machine used the same one I have. I love it. It's so much better than the prior models, e.g., MX870 and others before that I've had. Software has so many new helpful features, too many to note. I have had none of the problems mentioned by others, except that yes, it's a bit noisy and takes too long recycling before printing, but quality is terrific and no problems after using constantly/daily for 2 months. Highly recommended thus far.
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, High Quality Output, easy to use, intuitive new features
Cons: Slow Print Speed
I would recommend this to a friend!

lost connection all the time, I often had to turn it off and on again in order for it to print. It takes forever (2-5 min) to start up sometime. I made a poor decision to buy it.
Pros: High Quality Output
Cons: Difficult to use, Slow Print Speed, Large Footprint, Difficult Setup, unreliable
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I expected more from Canon

I have owned 6 Canon printers over the last 15 years and have loved all of them except this one. It is slow. It is noisy. It takes way too long to "warm up" and actually start printing. It has no rear paper feed. And printing envelopes is a nightmarish job with this printer. In the past I have always recommended Canon to friends wanting to buy a printer. I would not recommend this one to my worst enemy.

Dependable Network Printer
on November 15, 2014

This is my second network printer. Installation has become a lot easier. I am on Apple iMAC computers and Apple Time Capsule router and had no installation problems. I have no problems with the computer working wirelessly. Teens love that it works with AirPrint to print from cell phones and iPad, etc. I also have it hooked up to the telephone line with an answering machine and have no problems as I have had with previous Network printers. Ink cartridges are easy to change and I like the supply level monitoring.
The only thing that really bugs me is that I can't figure out how to align labels to print within the boundaries of the blank labels. Frustrating. I'm also not a fan of the Canon Picture Garden software and don't use it.
