Don't Believe the Hate - This is a Great Printer!

I've been a loyal fan of another manufacturer since the mid-1990s. I've owned dozens of their inkjet printers. After struggling with a completely unreliable printer and their extremely buggy and resource hog-y software for 4 years I finally got smart and went with this Canon Pixma.
I use this printer for printing work documents, borderless 4X6, print from my Android phone, and to scan to multiple PCs on my Wi-Fi network - all without any trouble or fanfare. If this were an Apple product this is where they would inject the "it just works" axiom.
I cannot recommend this printer enough. If I had any complaints it would be about the size of the device, but considering that it has ADF for scanning multiple pages consecutively, I'm happy with that tradeoff.
I would recommend this to a friend!

low ink cartridge

Put all new color cartridges in one month ago. I have done only B&W printing and the color cartridges all show very low. Canon needs to explain how to print B&W without using the color cartridges.

Would not recommend

Would not recommend this printer to anyone except for play. Certainly would not buy this model again. Cannon tech service said it was the same as the 892, just upgraded but it is not. The envelope tray is also the paper tray so you have to pull the tray, change the paper with envelopes, just to print a letter and envelope. Can't tell you how many invoices and letters have been printed on envelopes. It is noisy, takes a long time to cycle through whatever it is doing. Instead of reaching under the tray lip to pull out you have to put your finger between the trays and unless you have very small fingers, your finger binds on the cabinet as you pull on it

The most annoying printer ever made

Constantly loses its connection to our wifi, frequently cannot print for no reason at all. It's so inconsistent, we can't rely on it.

Best Printer so far

I was hesitant to purchase this printer after reading the CON reviews. I am glad I did go ahead and select this model. I took my time and read and followed the instructions. Logged on to my own LAN instead of using the default and have had no issues or problems with this machine. The prints come out faster than my old machine and more true to the original. I downloaded the instuction manuals prior to installing the printer and this was a big help in setting up.
Pros: High Quality Output, fast print speed, easy to use
Cons: printed instrucions vague

Good features, but rarely works
on December 9, 2014

Before owning the PIXMA MX922, I had the PIXMA MX882. Sure, the 882 didn't have a few of the features that I was used to with my earlier printers (like CD/DVD printing) weren't there, but the 882 was reliable, and I managed to use it several years without having any trouble.
When the print heads broke on the MX882, I decided to get a new printer. I saw the MX922, which seemed like a reasonable next step.
When I got home and set it up, I was impressed. It worked quickly, and it was just as easy to set up as the earlier models. I was impressed with all the new features.
However, a week later my family members began experiencing trouble. I had to reset the printer a few times, but it eventually works.
It's been 3 weeks now since I got the printer, and the problems have gotten much worse. It rarely works with Wi-fi at all. This is a real problem, since there is no way for anyone in the house to reasonably connect directly to it. If the Wi-Fi weren't so glitchy, it probably could have been a great printer.

Terrible

This is by far one of the worst printer combos I have ever used. I have printed only five times since I have owned the machine, and now I am unable to print at all. I have no indication on the reason for the failed print job. Also feeder is not secure and constantly gives me a 2800 error. I have to hold the feeder down to remove the error, or put something heavy on top. Canon makes great cameras, but horrible printers. Stay away from this one.
And downloading the manual from this site is a cluster. Just give us a PDF, don't make us install an exe.

I have 2 MX922's bought 2.5 yrs ago. They fax, copy and print OK and the sheet feeder works reasonably well. I only use them occasionally but when I do I am usually printing several different jobs. Frequently in between print jobs the printer goes through some internal process for a couple of minutes so it takes way too long to get my print jobs done. The delays are always extremely frustrating. Just today, one of my MX922s did a print job then made a loud squealing noise and quit. Been through all the trouble shooting with tech support and there are no paper jams, paper feeder works fine from the paper tray when doing roller cleaning, sheet feeder works fine on loading copy job and print head moves back and forth fine, just doesn't print and gives error 5100. Tech support says if not a jam this is an internal error that needs a service facility, closest 30 miles from my house. Definitely won't bother with service and will not replace either of these with Canon MX922!
