Complete Piece of Junk

Have been using this worthless machine for several months now, and the frustration has finally boiled over. Bought this to replace a Canon MX850, far & away the best printer I ever owned, which unfortunately finally wore out. This is on the other end of the spectrum. Cheaply built, slow, noisy, and an ink hog. Software is awful, especially compared to the prior iteration. I expected an upgrade w a new machine. Instead this is a downgrade.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Pretty Good Printer

This replaces a well used Pixma MX850 Eurospec. Setup on wired network was painless. Output quality is excellent, even photos (a weakness of the printer's forerunner).
The printer is fast ONCE it makes up its mind to print. After a task is sent to the printer, you can hear it cycling madly for quite some time, then the pages come pouring out.
I've used it for scans, fax, document printing, and the occasional photo (I have a dedicated photo printer for the important image processing) ... all trouble free.
Ink cost is even higher than the MX850 and the in-the-box cartridges aren't large capacity. I find marketing "regular" and "XL" cartridges inexplicable ... a few cc's of ink can't cost but pennies ... why not have just ONE full capacity, reasonably priced, cartridge size?
Pros: reliable, Easy Setup, High Quality Output, fast print speed, easy to use
Cons: slow to start printing, ink cost
I would recommend this to a friend!

A great value

Got this printer to replace previous B&W Brother MFC's so we could move to full color handouts and letters for medical office. Prints fast. Easy setup. Excellent color. It has only been about 1 1/2 months but it's smooth sailing so far.
For those who believe ink consumption is too high, try some different settings in your software. Bet you can get excellent, useable prints w/ reasonable ink consumption.
Canon is the best. We use a CANON PIXMA iP8720 to print brochures, posters, business cards, large format prints/photos, etc. The MX922 is a perfect companion- it uses the same ink carts.

Excellent MFP for home office

The MX992 integrated with my wifi easily. I am a total MAC customer. I use my imac, macbook pro, iPad, 2 iPods, and my iPhone to print from. I can print from any one of these devices without a hitch. The performance of the 922, and the quality of the prints, are amazing.
I have used Canon printers for many years, and have been very pleased with every printer I have owned. The only concern I have recently is the cost per copy seems to have gotten considerably higher compared to precious models.
Pros: Easy Setup
Cons: cost per print

What has happened to the quality of Canon printers
on June 2, 2015

I've had a Canon MP610 for years with not one problem. I bought the MX922 based on Consumer Reports in March. Set it up in April and got a print head error message. Called Canon and got that fixed. In May had a paper jam that could not be fixed. They sent a refurbished replacement. Set it up and got a wifi error. Emailed and got that fixed. Printed 3 pages and got a message that the cassette was out of paper - which it was not. Called and Canon could not fix that and is sending another printer. I've essentially been without a printer since I first set this up in April...........How long does this cycle go on They are sending yet another machine this week. If it does not work, I'm demanding a full refund and going to a different brand printer. Customer Service has been great but the product is terrible - unless I've just gotten two lemons in a row!

Not as good as previous Canon multifunction printe
on February 7, 2016

Canon multifunction printers had had a mixed history, some performing extremely well and others being mediocre.. Usually these machines have 4 functions: print, copy, fax and scan. The relative importance of these depends on the user. Everyone needs to print documents from time to time, but there is less need for photo printing as people store photos on their phones. Faxing is not usually necessary when you can send documents as email attachments, and copying is occasionally useful. But with digital storage of documents and photos now cheap and easily available, scanning has become the most useful function for many. And it's scanning where the MX922 is most disappointing.
In my experience scanning a variety of documents, the scans always came out looking faded, with low contrast and hard to read. This was true regardless of whether the original was fed through the document feeder or placed on the glass platen. There was no way to improve the scans using the included IJ Scan software, which is badly designed, cumbersome to use, and seriously limits the user's ability to make quick, clean looking scans. Previous Canon MF printers came with Canon's MP Toolbox, or the more recent MP Navigator EX. These are excellent programs, easy to use with great functionality. To replace these programs with the IJ Scan program makes one wonder what Canon is thinking, since IJ Scan is a major step backward.
Other problems with the MX922 include very slow and cumbersome paper handling for duplex scans, tedious setup procedure, no USB cable supplied, and inability to set up a wireless connection if your computer is connected to your network by a USB or Ethernet cable.
Although I have a long history of buying Canon printers and scanners, I was happy to return the MX922 and replace it with one from another manufacturer. Before buying any future Canon printer I would make sure there was an adequate return policy, since it now seems there is a good chance it will be needed.

I purchased this printer about 18 months ago and without notice it shut down. I will be purchasing a new printer, but not from Canon.

Disposable printer
on September 14, 2016

Was just told by canon that the print head appears to be bad, after less than 2 years. The head costs as much as the entire printer.
I'd look elsewhere as it appears no one is making printers that will last anymore. May as well buy the cheapest one out there since they are all disposable these days.
