FREQUENT MALFUNCTIONS

Loaded with features and sweet design, however printing often fails to engage from very nearby computer and problem-solving is a horror. Burns ink. At the moment, not printing at all.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Worst Printer EVER!
on June 12, 2014

I have used Canon printers all my life. My very first printer (Canon Pixma 780) lasted about 8 year until the printer nozzle broke and it was more expensive to replace than to buy a new printer. Was very sad to let go but then I bought a Canon Pixma MX870 with the new wireless technology. I was skeptical at first as the construction quality was a little bad but in general I was pretty satisfied. It printed wirelessly with no issues, I just didn't like that the USB port was built inside a hole so none of my USB sticks would fit. After moving countries, I sold the MX870 and bought this MX922....the worst printer ever. Whoever designed this printer didn't care about what they were designing...if it was even created by a designer. I almost feel like it was designed by an engeneer who likes the color of poo (hence the ugly brown accent at the bottom). The printer is glossy so there are fingerprints and dust particles all over it CONSTANTLY, even though I try to keep it clean and not touch the glossy part. Who in their right mind would design a glossy printer? Not only is glossy not in style anymore but its not practical. The printer is extremely noisy and constantly makes strange sounds at random time. It takes forever to print anything (because its wasting time making noises), makes a load of noise after the print is done as well, this is very annoying (and its set to 'quiet mode printing'....go figure). The wireless connectivity is absolute rubbish! I have been trying to print 1 page and it starts to print and then stops and goes to sleep and Im left with wasted ink, paper & time. Sometimes I try to print and the print queue does not come up, so I press print again...nothing happens...I press again...still nothing. The I manually have to open up settings > printers > click on this printer > open print queue and then all my prints are showing up (so it WAS sent to the printer) but my printer decided to take a break from its only life job and it refused to print my page. When I click resume, and delete all the extra prints, it painfully wakes up, makes more noises...while I sit patiently waiting and then it decided to quit on my again and pushes out a page that is only printed 1/5 of what I'm trying to print. Unbelievable. I have had enough...if this is the quality of printers that Canon is spitting out then I want out...will be trying other brands. I demand a full refund for this bad printer.
Pros: Easy Setup
Cons: Slow Print Speed, unreliable, Flimsy Construction, loses wireless connection
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Bad Bad Bad

I am so disappointed in Canon. When I generally see the Canon name, I used to feel confident I was buying quality, but this product is shameful. User interface and technical issues should had been addressed before ever releasing. Read all the other complaints and I agree with all of them. It's to late for me to return, but I just threw away my money. I want a recall on this product!

Best Printer in MX series
on September 9, 2014

For me this is the CADILLAC IN THE PIXMA MX SERIES , I needed a replacement for my MX860 (with rear feeder for photos, which jammed most of the time) so I ordered the MG 5520 first. While the MG printed great photos, it only had one paper tray, and the constant exchange of paper from photo to regular paper and different size and quality, has the Printer confused? (Therefore all the
error messages, and the reason I purchased the MX922 instead! CANON you FINALLY did it . You put both PAPER TRAYS IN THE FRONT
Therefore no more jams when using photo paper, and the quality of photos is excellent. While the printer is as large as the other MX Models, You are now saving the space of the rear feeder,(which was about 10 inches when extended) by placing this printer all the way to the wall a great improvement right there!
It gets even better, this printer is extremely quit in use there is no shaking it simply opens and prints with ease

Great print quality, iffy wireless connectivity
on January 4, 2015

Having used this printer now for about 6 months, after replacing a dead MX700 series, I'd recommend it and purchase it again (although with some caveats).
I would rate 5 stars if the wireless connectivity were more reliable (perhaps a future firmware fix could help?).
PROS:
The print quality - especially photos - is outstanding. I can now print 8x10s at home that are to me more or less indistinguishable from professional quality. Color, resolution, contrast, they're all superb. Having two paper trays, including the top tray being dedicated to 5x7 or 4x6 photo paper, is a tremendous convenience.
I really like the design such that all papers go in the front and come back out the front - no odd feeding from the back, etc. - as with previous Canon inkjet designs.
I've printed dozens of odd shaped envelopes on this printer, too, and the feed system all worked perfectly.
In hundreds of print jobs so far, I've not had a single jam.
Speed and ink consumption also seem to be quite good.
Excellent packaging. It is high quality, easy to unpack, and gave me confidence that the manufacturer cared about delivering a good product. I've had numerous other printers where I just about broke the thing trying to get it out of the shipping box. No such worries with this product.
Excellent value for money IMO
CONS:
i found setup rather time consuming and tedious, although it was well documented and easy enough to go through.
The wireless connectivity is frustratingly iffy, both printing through Google Cloud Print and just over the local wifi network. The issue is that the printer just doesn't "stay connected". Every time I want to print to it wirelessly, I have to go to the printer and tell it to check from Web Print jobs. After that, it picks up any queued jobs or, if I hit print within a few minutes, it will receive the job and print out the output. This is extremely annoying but is something i can live with given the other strengths and price of the printer.
UNKNOWNS:
I've not tested the scanner yet so can't really comment on this particular model.
I haven't tried out any of the included software or the options to download and print thing directly from the web (like calendars or stationery), although I commend Canon for including them.

This is beyond a disappointing print, print speed means nothing if it take 2-3 minutes to format and start print. I was a big Canon fan having loved my last machine, but I will never by a Canon printer again.

Terrible Printer
on December 31, 2015

I bought this 6 months ago to print wirelessly from my laptops, iPads, and iPhones.
It WILL NOT stay connected to the network.
It comes and goes to my network for no apparent reason.
I've tried everything and read all the fixes on the Internet.
Evidently this is very common with this printer.
I'm going to throw this out.
I'd like Canon to make this good and replace it with a model that actually works
In the way, everything else on my network has no problem

One of the most hated things in my life

There is always some problem with this printer. Ever time I go to print, I know that it's going to be a 30 minute battle to figure out why it isn't printing or isn't printing correctly. It's one of the most hated products I've ever used.
