Cannot scan if out of ink
on September 24, 2018
Posted by: gggggggg
I need to scan but cannot because it gives an out of ink error and locks up the device. I don't need to print so I don't want to but more ink cartridges. The out of ink error should not lock up the entire device.

I wish I hadn't bought this printer

It's inefficient and unreliable.
It's unreliable because the wifi connection will NOT stay up for long periods. When the printer is inactive for a long time goes to sleep and loses the wifi connection until you power cycle it. Basically this means on Monday morning the printer will not print until someone power cycles it. The same thing happens on any day it's used infrequently. I tried every possible option setting and verified that the only reliable fix for it's wifi feature is to give up and not use wifi. IE disable the wifi and hardwire it to the network.
It's efficiency sucks because at random times it decides to do a cleaning cycle that lasts over a minute. You can print a couple of pages, wait a couple of seconds and try to print another page, and the printer will decide it first has to do a cleaning cycle before printing the next page. This uses up the ink really fast. AND it seems to do cleaning cycles more and more often when the it's low on ink. IE, positive feedback which makes its thruput go lower and lower.
The MX922 isn't an improvement over the previous MX top of the line model.
Over the years, the top model in MX product line always worked great in my office environment. But that winning streak ended with the MX922. It's so bad that we will no longer buy any Canon printers.

I’ve owned this printer for over 2 years. Had trouble since day one. Every time I need to use it I need to be sure to set aside at least 30 minutes to get this piece of garbage connected to my computer. Multiple restarts and configuring EVERY TIME I need to use it. The heads went bad after 6 months. Wasted $$$ on ink to clean it. By far the WORST printer I’ve ever owned. Can’t wait for my sledgehammer to arrive so I can smash this thing to bits.

Solid Printer

This is my third Pixma printer and as the others continues to be my favorite brand. The printer quality is very good, the speed of printing quick and the ability to refill the separate ink cartridges with my own ink is one of the primary reasons I stick with Canon. I do not like the multi-function software platform of this printer in comparison with their prior versions, like the Mx 882. Scanning is more cumbersome and was quicker/easier with the prior versions.
Pros: reliable, durable, High Quality Output, fast print speed
Cons: poor multifunction interface
I would recommend this to a friend!

What a piece of junk

Seriously worse first printer experience ever. This thing does not work right out of the box. It takes so long to install the printer with so many steps to do this and do that. After you get it "set" up, it still doesn't want to work properly. Theprinter falls asleep on its own and never wakes up for a print job. And then, now I can't even print wirelessly at all. It's just seeing a queue print job and I've tried restarting the computer, printer, and reseating the ink but nothing works. I really hate this printer with a passion. I want to go OFFICE SPACE on it.

I received this printer as a replacement from Canon for a PIXMA MX892 that stopped working. Since I've had this, I've not had any problems. I'm not a heavy user of my printer, I've had it for just under a year and I'm just now ordering my first set of replacement cartridges. I use it mainly to print recipes and family photos. The pictures have been very good quality, printing (once it starts) is fast. My only real complaint is that it takes FOREVER to be ready to print. If I'm on my PC and decide to print something, turn on my printer, then hit the print icon, it can take 2 or 3 minutes for the printer to start up and be ready to go. If I know I'm going to be printing, I turn on my printer early to make sure it's ready. That's my only real complaint. I also use the scan to PDF and copy features quite a bit, and am very happy with those.

GREAT PRINTER

My sister has owned this printer for a little over year and I just bought it November of 2015. It is working GREAT for me in my home office!! I use it personally and professionally. I print DVD's and CD's and it works GREAT! I have it hooked up wireless so my wife on the 3rd floor can print her occasional color prints and i use it for my laptop! I can sit outside on the patio and print and the document is waiting for me. The ink lasts a long time. I have printed several color sheets 8x11 and 25 colorful DVD's and the ink has not run out yet. I have been using Canon printers since the old BJC 4000 bubble jet printer back in the early 90's. I have gone through 5 Canon printers since then and they have all been Great! Thank you Canon for a lifetime of good quality printers!

BAD: No longer air prints, or connects wirelessly

Has stopped communicating with the wifi network. I have to power it down and then power it up and sometimes re-enter the network password each time I want to print wirelessly.
