Cannot select default paper tray

I just purchased this printer a few days ago for our grandson after seeing good reviews online. I cannot recommend MX922 due to the fact that it forces the use of the 4"x6" paper tray in many instances (my daughter and grandson print from an iPhone and an iPad) rather than letting the user select which paper tray to use.

Bought this so I could print from my phone.

It worked one week. Then nothing. Could never get it to connect again. Later found out it's a problem with Canon's. That was the only reason I bought it.
Now it's just a printer except the ink ran out, so I replaced it. Still not working.
So now it's not even a printer. It is a decoration on my desk. Waste of money.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Extremely Poor Documentation
on December 14, 2013

Of all the printers I could have purchased, I bought this one for one reason: To print labels on my own CD. There is a software program " My Image Garden" that is EXTREMELY USER UNFRIENDLY." I have spent about 3 hours trying to figure out how to print a CD (not one of Canon's predefined themse, but my own CD label.) Have yet to do so. I regret having purchased this machine, and the name CANON witll stick in my mind whenever to purchase ANY electronic product, camera, printer, or otherwise. Consider me an EXTREMELY UNHAPPY CUSTOMER. (BTW, for normal printing, the printer is OKAY. It's just the documentation and software that is son EXTREMELY poor.)
Cons: Difficult to use, Difficult Setup, poor documentation, poor software

Could have been great

The biggest problem is that it keeps going down. The lights will be on, but it won't respond to the computer, the control buttons, or even the on/off button. I have to unplug it to get it working, and then it complains that I shut it down incorrectly! This happens at least a few times per week.
Second problem - it takes a long time to print the first page. Most of the time when I print, it sits there making internal noises for a long time. If you print documents of 20 or more pages most of the time, this may not be a problem, but for one or two pages the wait is much longer than with older printers I've had.
On the good side, output quality is excellent, speed is good once it starts printing, and paper handling (including duplex mode) is good.
Pros: Easy Setup, High Quality Output
Cons: Slow Print Speed, unreliable

Bummer

The big problem with printers is you are buying a "pig in a poke" You can't really test drive them and you think you can work out any glitches once you own them. We bought this printer because it was a brand name and had a large ink cartridge. We only need a printer for printing, copying and scanning. Why does it have to be so complicated? Didn't know that you cannot refill the cartridges but the printer is designed to force you to buy new cartridges at preset intervals. This printer is as slow a molasses. Sometimes it seems to recycle itself for minutes. I would NOT recommend this printer.

I am really disappointed in this printer. Should have done more homework before purchasing the MX922 to replace an IP4700. Big mistake. Won't let you custom source paper whereas IP4700 had easy access rear tray. There are other features that don't do much for me.

MX922 the Ultimate Printing Machine

This printer works great with all my devices. I have an iMac, iMac Mini, MacBook Air, iPad, iPhones and even a Windoz 7 laptop. They all work great on USB, LAN and WLAN. The picture printing is next to none, even from an iPhone. The scanning actually works better on the Mac's for some reason, I guess because Mac's are better then Windoz. The connectivity issues others have reported are mostly likely due to their wireless access point or the PC's drivers. I currently have and ATT Uverse router the seems to want to shut down all the time.
