Efficient and easy to use

Versatile and long-lasting

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We finally replaced our kitchenaid mixer that’s older than we are! We got the 5quart tilt head mixer and it works really well for double batches of cookies, shredding freshly cooked chicken, whipping eggs for meringues and making pizza dough. The clear shield with the pour spout is handy as well since the mixer doesn’t have lots of space to pour into the bowl unless the head is in the upright position. I like that the mixing blades are dishwasher safe as well.

Mother's Day Gift

As an avid baker and cook, I have coveted the Kitchenaid Stand mixer for years but had always done everything by hand. Due to some health issues, my family purchased this for me for Mother's Day! I quickly began to put it to the test beginning with batches of cookies and cakes, dessert loaves, which went fairly well. However, upon making a dough for a single bread loaf or pizza dough, I had immediate concerns about the lid lock mechanism sliding to the unlocked position every minute or so, resulting in my having to stand and physically hold down the top of the machine to prevent it from unlocking and jerking open. I find it odd that the speed toggle is notched to avoid the machine from moving unintentionally from one speed to the next, yet he locking mechanism doesn't have the same feature.
It certainly took away the joy of what a stand mixer represents (hands free) to have to manually hold down the top of the machine (which gets quite hot) and move the toggle back to the locked position every 30-60 seconds while kneading even a relatively soft dough.
This also causes the machine to work much harder, and heat that much more than it already would when handling this task which is it is apparently supposed to be able to handle (and the recipe was less than 3 cups of flour).
I'm uncertain if this is a defect in my machine or an issue with all of them.
I'd have rated it a 5 had I not run into this issue, but unfortunately have to reduce my rating because of this. I'm really disappointed and am hoping there is a solution.
