The high definition video and 5.1 surround sound were excellent. The extended cut scenes added worthwhile details to the story. Great Blu-ray deal for $9.99 sale price. I rate Stargate 5 stars for engaging Sci-Fi entertainment. The DVD extras should have included the contents of the film's pre-release CD, which I still have, however, the CD will not work on a PC with a current OS. The DVD extras producer and director commentaries were interesting.
What's great about it: Excellent high definition, 5.1 surround sound and added extended cut scenes

One of the Best Blue Ray transfers. Exceptionally clean video and audio. Plays best with DTS audio; PS3 display (with firmware 2.35) indicates DTS HD has more than double the audio resolution of the Dolby track. Excellent story line. Very high production values. Lack of any extras is disappointing, but what you get is of the highest quality. Would be easy 5-star rating if it had extras. If you like the film and have the SD version, don't hesitate to get the BD version. The improvement in both video and audio playback is substantial - even over good upscaling. Highly Recommended
What's great about it: Outstanding Picture and Sound

This movie was and always has been great. It spawned The longest running Sci-Fi series to date. I suggest picking up the Stargate SG-1 series if you liked the movie. This Blu-Ray was much better then the previous. Highly Recommended!

True fans of 'Stargate' will want to bypass this Blue-Ray disc and stick with the much better 2-disc special edition dvd that came out several years ago, had both the theatrical and director's cuts of the film, as well as several bonus features oddly not seen here on this new so-called 'next generation' release.

The "extended cut" looks great. The original cinematography was wonderful. The original music at times gets a bit repetitive, but I imagine that not many people have John Williams talent. Regardless, the most annoying thing about this version is the complete lack of subtitles for the many foreign languages spoken (German, "ancient Egyptian", etc). The only way to get any subtitling (and still much of the subtitles is not there) is to turn on either the English or Spanish subtitles. On the DVD I rented, the subtitles were there just for the foreign languages, leaving the English un-subbed. It wouldn't be so bad, except that this is a Blu-Ray, for which you're paying extra. You expect a little bit of continuity between the movies on different formats. I say, stick with the standard DVD version.
What's great about it: Looks great in hi-def
What's not so great: No subtitles for the many "ancient Egyptian" dialogues that occur.

Like others have commented the quality of the transfer was not that great. Probably could have gotten just the same quality from a upscaled DVD. Also like one of the other posters said you have to turn on subtitles otherwise you don't know what is going on through half the movie. The DVD automatically subtitles the foreign language parts while this one doesn't. Basically I wish I hadn't spent $10 on it.
What's great about it: It's on Blu-Ray and it is the Stargate movie!
