"Hissing Fauna, Are You the Destroyer?" is the pinnacle of Of Montreal's career. Soaring melodies that are built on near impossible falsettos rise above subtly funky electro-pop backbeats. Kevin Barnes has such an ear for catchy hooks, that many times, there are multiple hooks in the same song. The album details the transformation of Kevin Barnes into "Georgie Fruit" a black she-male, which explains why the first half of the album is very reflective and personal, while the second half is very joyous and whimsical. This split is marked by the 11-minute epic "The Past is a Grotesque Animal," some of Barnes' best lyrics ever.
When I first bought this album, I thought it was fun, had some catchy tunes, and was basically a throwaway. But I just couldn't help returning to it over and over again, when other albums didn't satisfy me. The lyrics always reward close reading and analysis, and the music is so well-crafted and layered so thoroughly that you will always find something new to latch on to.
I highly recommend this album to anyone who has any interest in the art of Pop Music.
What's great about it: great melodies, interesting rhythms, brilliant lyrics
What's not so great: some "atmospheric" sounds last a bit too long
I would recommend this to a friend!

The first three tracks from this "Of Montreal" album flow together very well. The three songs have a solid beat and give false hopes for the rest of the CD. Unfortunately, after the first three songs, the CD begins to fall apart.... songs don't have consistant beats and the words don't rhyme, which is distracting. Not the worst CD i have ever purchased, but far from the best.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
