I've never read the book, but I do love the movie! The Prestige takes you on a journey full of twists and turns as you watch two rival magicians battle it out in an effort to outdo one another. Each cast member seems perfectly suited to their role- I cannot imagine better choices! The whole time you watch the movie, you cannot help but try to figure out the tricks- ESPECIALLY the big one that consumes our main character. Keep your eyes peeled as telltale signs DO pop up during the movie that all make perfect sense in the end, but good luck picking up enough of them to figure it out by the time its all over! One word: DEDICATION. The ending to this movie really makes you smack your forehead in realization, even if it is a bit on the creepy side- I don't think you'll see it coming! As with some movies, this one does suffer from a bit of slowdown at times, but thankfully it is not enough to sour the experience! At the very least, this movie is worth a rental, but I chose to OWN because I know I'll watch this one again from time to time!
What's great about it: GREAT Acting & Storyline, Twist Ending!
What's not so great: A Little Slow At Times, A Little Confusing Others

I saw this movie when it first came out and waited longer than I should have to buy it. Christopher Nolan is in my top 3 favorite directors and he never disappoints. Each member of the cast was a perfect selection for his/her part and the rivalry between Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman is fascinating. The movie starts out with (in a sense) pieces of a puzzle because you are shown both present and future scenes and you know the are put together, but you don't know what leads to it and the suspense only builds higher and higher from there. The story is filled with deception, suspense, jealousy, hatred, and revenge. Two magicians battling to be the best and have taken many risks/chances to doing so. In the end, all is revealed and then you realize that this is an amazing movie and should be part of every collection.
What's great about it: Christopher Nolan, Amazing actors/actresses, captivating plot, filled with suspense
What's not so great: The movie jumps from future to present quite often and could lead some to get lost.

"The Prestige" has a riveting story, flawless characters, conflict, drama, etc. Overall, this film was great and I recommend it to anyone. Especially if you haven't seen it already, pick one up.

The great thing about The Prestige is that the first time you watch the movie it completely messes with your mind. But what truly makes it a modern classic is that it’s highly re-watchable. There are so many layers to this movie but ultimately I feel it’s about obsession and how certain driven individuals place their pursuit of making history and claiming greatness over dedicating themselves to their family and the ones they love. And ultimately that comes at a very heavy cost. But if you do not want to get that deep with the film it’s a viscerally thrilling ride all the way through and nicely blends authentic magic with a touch of science fiction to further heighten the sense of being in a forbidden world where tragedy, magic, revenge, and obsession intersect.
The 4K image is glorious in revealing richer colors and really fine details that the Blu-ray cannot match and the lossless sound definitely pulls you into the world of early 20th century London as well as Nikolai Teslas hidden laboratory in Colorado.
Highly recommended for Nolan fans and those who enjoy mindbending, psychological dramas.

The Prestige offers superb acting from Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman with great support from Michael Caine and Scarlett Johansson. The entire story from the very opening scene grips you and doesn't let go until the groundbreaking and unpredictable ending. It's an absolute thrill ride of puzzles, twists, and turns that has the audience scrambling to figure it out until the secrets are finally released in the last minute. The ending will leave you wanting to see this movie again and again.
What's great about it: Very unpredictable and true to the book

Though I agree that the movie was well driven and the plot was strategically instructed, in the end this movie left me wanting more out of the 130 minutes I had just spent watching it.
I did enjoy the movie, but it was somehow lacking, I can't even place my finger on it, but the ending just left a hole that was never filled throughout the movie. Worth watching for the plot alone though.
What's great about it: Well thought out storyline
What's not so great: Left me wanting more

I loved it and it surprised me. The plot was extremely clever and the acting was good too. It was a movie where it shows the past and present at the same time. Extremely good.

Another stellar movie from Christopher Nolan. Every actor gives a fantastic performance in this film. The cinematography is especially well done, in particular the shot of the train looping through the mountainside, with trees surrounding it on both sides. The plot moves a little slowly in my opinion, but this is one of the rare instances where it's actually a benefit to the film. You can help but feel enraptured by the film as it unfolds, much like the audiences members in the film feel during the progression of a magic trick. A strange sense of wonder, and of the unknown, lurks throughout this film, making it a must see in my opinion.
What's great about it: Realatively unused setting, great acting, superb picture quality
What's not so great: None really, although this movie won't be everyone's cut of tea
