Flawed Product Design-Excellent Features and Value

This comment reflects my issues with model LCRT1513ST, the comment is already on reviews and the sentiment is repeated throughout.
"The keypad looked OK in the store with bright lights and at eye level. In standard light and not at eye level, it is *very* difficult to read the front panel. The contrast with the background is very low. There's no back light, which would have helped. It is a major annoyance and seems like a huge design flaw. Even though I like everything else about the microwave (perfect size for me - very large inside for the outer dimensions, all the buttons...). ". Another comment mentioned having a flashlight handy; advice I took and find works..
Given this issue and what I consider a major design flaw, has LG considered a solution to the flaw such as a some sort of overlay to the control panel with colors that make the "buttons" more readable or something similar? Or maybe a battery operated light which can be affixed / .attached to the top of the control panel.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

I like the fact that this microwave is easy to clean. The overall looks are great. I only have one issue...Why would you put dark grey numbers and letters on a black background? It's very difficult to see anything on the keypad even in normal lighting conditions. I would hope that LG could come out with a self stick overlay in white lettering. I own a lot of LG products with no issues or concerns and would like to see LG remedy this problem. Other than that the microwave does exactly what it's supposed to.

Difficult to unpack, Controls hard to see

Needed immediate replacement due to lightning strike. Seemed closest to the GE which was zapped. Nearly returned item before I finished unpacking. The film covering took 3 hours to remove, and still shreds remain. The controls are not lit, so I use a flashlight to see. Settings are complicated, requiring multiple references to the manual. Operation functioning is good. Defrost works well. Food does not become tough. Good power for liquids.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] The keypad is a major annoyance!!! It was fine in the store with lots of light, but at home you must use a flashlight. I cannot believe LG has not corrected the problem.

[This review was collected as part of a promotion.] We were forced to buy a new microwave after our 18-year-old microwave died one morning. I like the curved interior of this microwave. Easy to clean. I have two complaints -- the interior light is too dim, and, more importantly, in dim light, you CANNOT see the keypad on the display screen. It's totally black. There's an energy saver option to eliminate the clock time, but nothing (to my knowledge) to turn on a light for the keypad to enter the minutes of cook time.
Pros: Features/Settings, Performance, Quality, easy to use

Needs a lighted control panel!

Great microwave except for the annoying feature of no lighted control panel. In the store, this is not really evident because of the strong lighting, but once I got it home and into the kitchen it was noticeable. Even with my kitchen lights on, it is difficult to see and read the numbers. Bought a cheap flashlight and I keep it close to the microwave. Not the best setup at all….

LOOKS GREAT & WORKS PERFECTLY

Originally wanted an over the range microwave but didn't have the height needed for a safe installation. Looked and looked for a microwave with the features I wanted that would fit in the built- in microwave cabinet. Finally found this one and I love it! The Sensor Cooking feature works great. Cooks fresh or frozen vegetables to perfection, takes all the guess work away. The melt and softening features are just what I was looking for. When I am able, I have my eyes on three additional major appliances that have exactly what I want. Thanks LG for your innovative technology!

My wife and I have been together for 37 years, bought our first microwave back in 1978, we've now had to replace it. We're adjusting to the new features and keep the book handy. We've had it for about a month now and a couple of the features were a real surprise - for instance, cooking fresh veggies, the first time we put the veggies in and hit the veggie button the asparagus was perfect, I thought it was a fluke, so we tried a different quantity, again perfect. The only complaint is that it can be difficult to see the pad without full lighting. As we get use to the settings that will probably change. All in all, fantastic!
