Half Smart Television

This television is beautiful and the perfect fit for the small bedroom I have! That's the only positive thing I can say about this television.
The J5200 series falls short in every other aspect for what I expected a Samsung television to have. I will go over my lowest scores for Features and Value

Despite there being more positives than negatives in this area I will explain why this TV falls short. It's labeled "SmartTV", but it's only half smart. I can turn on my Apple TV, Fire TV, and even PlayStation and have access to more apps than I know what to do with.
I spoke with a customer representative and she informed me I needed the JS5500 or higher to gain access to particular features. She also stated that app developers decide what televisions get what apps. What in the world is the point of having a wifi enabled television if I don't have a access to all their apps and features. I also doubt app access has more to do with developer choice rather than Samsungs own OS for the television.

Maybe in this televisions hay day did it seem like a state of the art value, but as of 12/01/15 this product is crippled. If you're in the market for a Samsung I would suggest research be done in advanced. One could literally buy a regular non-smart television set and purchase an external streaming device. This would result in a greater savings by far.
I understand that business is business and the only way companies ensure profitability is to exclude features in old devices. This way you'll buy that new product that's "better". Wait till this television goes down further in price, it is by no means a good value with what it offers right now.

So far I'm loving my Smart TV.It was very easy to set up.The display features are very clear and easy to understand and to follow.The design of this TV is absolutely beautiful, simple and slick.

Doesn't Work!

I just opened the box in my new apt, had cable set up with this new TV, and then started watching…Unfortunately the euphoria of my new gift did not last long, as the TV phantom shut off and will not turn back on. Good timing for the brand new TV to not work- cue missing of ball drop on new years. Customer service is closed for the holiday and I am left with a TV that does not turn on. Very disappointed in Samsung.
Cons: Poor quality, Did not meet expectations, will not turn back on, phantom shut off

Very narrow viewing angle

Samsung 40” LED Smart TV - J5200 series
Having used the TV for two months, I note the following issues:
1- The left & right edges of many TV programs are cut off and not visible. This is especially noticeable on news & weather broadcasts.
2- If the viewers are not directly in front of the TV, the colors are faded and washed out. This is a 40” screen and everyone can’t be seated on a straight line in front of the screen.

3- Excessive Audio Positions – It takes too long to change volume level. The remote batteries will wear out quickly with 100 audio levels.
Would not recommend this TV to anyone!

Nice TV with Below Average Features

I bought a LED J5200 Series Smart TV - 48" Class a couple weeks ago. In the Smart Hub I brought up the web browser and logged onto ESPN. I tried to watch a college football game and the browser told me that the Flash player needed to be updated but the four options listed didn't work.
The Samsung rep told me by online chat that it is not possible to update as the web browser and Flash player are default and cannot be updated to latest software version. So, my brand new, two-week-old TV is already out of date.
Also, please be aware that the Component (blue, red, green) and the Composite (yellow, red, white) inputs share the same Green/Yellow plug. If you have a Component-only device (cable TV box) and a Composite-only device (video game), you will have to unplug one in order to plug in the other to watch/use it.
Pros: Lightweight
Cons: Did not meet expectations, inputs share same plug, smart hub web browser is outdated

Great picture and features with the smart TV

Every feature of this product is great with one exception. It seems I have to go into the network settings everyday to refresh the internet connection and then there are no problems for the rest of the day. If I forget to do the refresh, the TV goes into some type of 'wait' state for a while. The remote control has no effect. After several minutes I am able to turn off the TV, wait a few seconds, turn the TV back on and refresh the network. It is a nuisance. Maybe the modem is too far away from the TV but I have a Samsung DVD that does not experience the problem. I am not sure what is the problem. Otherwise I am very pleased with the product. I like Samsung products.

Streaming issues

Sometimes when close-up on faces, the faces seems to waver/shift a bit, and when high contrast with a quiet background, the contrast item wavers relative to the background - it seems to float. I notice this most with Netflix streaming, but it does occur on a lesser frequency from DVDs. It can be slightly disturbing until you get used to it, but it fails to distract from the other qualities of this TV.
