We got tires of running wires around our living room just so we could have 5.1 surround. This was a relatively inexpensive option to get the surround speakers w/o wires around the room. 1 unit attaches to your tv or amp and transmits to the speaker unit. The speaker unit is plugged into an outlet and the speaker wires are run from this unit to the speakers.

The sound will be compromised a little. I use those for my rear speakers in surround, so it's less of an issue. Wouldn't recommend for main speakers unless you had to.

The Universal Wireless Rear Speaker Kit is fine with the volume low and the distance from the transmitter is kept at a 14 feet minimum. When the volume is turned up it the speakers creates a "Thumping" sound.
