The Scanner that doesn't

So far I have been unable to get it work as a slide scanner. With the slide holder in ;place I get a message saying the cover is not closed. Nothing I try has corrected this. The software is clunky. I'm thinking of returning it to the store.
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

The scanner is built OK, but the software is garbage. Nothing but problems and most slides were only scanned about 40-50%...doing four at a time, lucky to get 1 at 100%, and no upgrades to the software. Sent the unit back after 3 days. Now using the V550. Much better unit but still software has a few problems, nothing major. Have done over 500 slides and only had maybe 5-8 partial scans. The Dust Remover does not work at all, but other finish work takes of this.

I've just received a lot of old family materials that I want to scan for my purposes before offering the "hard copies" to other family members who might want to actually store them. While my [Epson] printer has a scanner, I wanted a slightly larger size but still compact enough to put on my desk so I could scan easily while also doing some other work. The Epson V370 has proven great for this purpose.
While I rate it at 5-stars, there are a few aspects I would like to see improved or changed.
The scanning does NOT reach to the edges of the glass bed and the lost scan is greater at the three edges (top, bottom & hinge-side) you're most likely to use for alignment of the material. The "loss" is about 1/8-inch or 3mm, so it is not inconsequential. I can't think of any reason why this couldn't be expanded.
Also, other software I've used sets JPG quality with 0 as lowest and 100 as best (but also largest file size). Epson uses 0 as 0% _compression_ (i.e., max file data) with 100 being max compression. This had me chasing my tail for a bit so just fair warning.
I've used lots of Epson equipment and have always been very satisfied.

Easy installation. I just scanned and edited my first photo. It was easy but I have a lot to learn. The scanner produced a good image.

Scanner is very easy to use, fast, simple and practical. I am glad that I made the right choice in selecting this scanner. The price for it was reasonable and economical. This scanner will make my life easier in scanning all of my pictures to my computer and USB drive to save them in.

Scanner performs as promised!
Super-easy set-up and use for documents and photos, haven't tried filmstrips, negatives or slides yet. Photo scan quality is excellent, accurate color and grayscale reproduction, just as sharp as the original is. I scanned some old photos as a test and am very happy with the results. Docs also, good as it gets with a consumer product. The OCR software is perfect for my needs, a welcome added bonus. I like the Scan to PDF button and fast, straightforward responses. Also like that the storage space for the slide and filmstrip accessories is neatly hidden within the scanner, so all is together for any media I want to scan. Online instruction book is clear and direct.
