I bought aboth color and black cartridges. The color does not work. I have black only if tho they are installed correctly. Could the color cartridge be dried up?

I had purchased refurbished toner for my HP PhotoSmart printer; the printer stopped working. Since it is almost 13 years old, I figured it died. Then I decided to buy HP Toner and see if that made a difference. It is working perfectly with the HP Toner. I won't be purchasing refurbished toner again.
