The unit would not accept a software upgrade. As a result the unit locked up and a power reset was the only fix. Eventually it did accept the upgtade and seems to work as advertised now.

Best Streamer for Searching

I have a Roku 3 (replaced a Roku HD), an Apple TV, and Chromecast. The Roku is my favorite when searching for something specific; from search menu Roku gives results across Netflix, Crackle, and everything else that is available. It may deliver multiple options so you pick the one that's free!
It is easy to use the Roku app on my android phone to control the Roku, including typing on my smartphone's keyboard instead of clicking though the alphabet on the TV screen. What I see on my phone happens on the screen!
But, the Roku has problems with sound. When initially setting up, it "detects" the best option for sound quality. It missed my 5.1 Home Theater system and locked on to "stereo." There is no obvious way to change this and I'm slowly troubleshooting. Roku seems picky about which digital audio codes it can read (DD+) and where it should send this signal (AV receiver vs. TV).

This replaced our pay channels on cable!

We have this device on 5 TV's. We picked up Netflix, Amazon Prime and HuluPlus and dropped our cable pay channels (HBO, etc). Couldn't possibly run out of things to watch. Show it to everyone who visits and all have now done the same. Even visiting family from England are committed to getting one when they return home.

I love my Roku 3!! I'm a lady in my 60' s & I could set it up & use it easily! I have Netflix & the new Dish SlingTv & can access them easily & the reception is beautiful!! Thanks for having this option for me to purchase!

We are new to Roku, but so far, so good. We've been able to watch tv episodes of shows we initially have missed out on. Plus we've enjoyed some movie watching. We appreciate the 'ease' of using it, and now I just hope all my old Netflix dvd choices will still be available via Netflix streaming.

I got the Roku 3 for my family for Christmas, well okay I got it for myself but whatever don't tell them! So far it has worked as expected with the exception of picture quality. however, I have a feeling that I am doing something wrong and I haven't had a chance to figure it out yet. I will keep you posted...
