Overall, I'm happy to have purchased the Roku 3. I have used Western Digital's WDTV for the last couple of years and Roku's channel selection beats WDTV out of the water on that front. However, the Roku is lacking on the native video file support -- it only supports MP4 and MKV, whereas the WDTV supports those formats plus AVI (Xvid), MPG/MPEG, VOB, TS, MOV, M2TS, WMV, FLV, and also supports subtitle files. Same thing with the Photo formats: Roku (JPG, PNG) vs. WDTV (those, plus GIF, TIFF, BMP). Audio formats: Roku (AAC, MP3) vs. WDTV (those, plus WAV, WMA, FLAC, MKA, AIFF, OGG, DTS... and includes Playlist support of PLS, M3U, and WPL formats). Probably not a big issue for the average user, though. I just happen to have a collection of home movies, music, and personal photos that I cannot play now. BUT, having said that, the additional channel selections do make up for part of that, so I'll still say it's an excellent addition to my entertainment system... I just wish it were a full replacement, not an addition :)
