Getting away from the cable/dish provider

I bought my Roku 3 for my bedroom TV to watch Netflix and other streaming TV chanels. It works pretty well, but I think I need to update my router speed because there are some break ups in the picture and sound or it may be the distance from the router. I'm going to be looking into improving that. The free channels that they offer are pretty decent, however I would like to get AMC because they have a lot of great shows that I like to watch and my utlimate goal is to CANCEL! my Directv service because they keep jacking up the rates and I only watch about 10 channels of the 100's I get.

Abundance of channels

Had the Roku 3 about a month, very easy to set up and the number of channels available is fantastic. We watch a lot of movies and the selection of free ones is great.

Unlike so many electronic components I have, I didn't need to read any instruction manual to get this Roku up and running - not even the quick set up guide (if there was one) Dozens of networks, thousands of free shows, movies, special, whatever. It's great!

After doing our research we purchased both a Roku 3 and a Streaming Stick. Our only regret is that we didn't do it sooner. We have recommended Roku to family and friends.

We've been streaming our Netflix movies from our Sony Blu-Ray player for years. It kept stopping to download the movie or show while we were watching it. Sometimes, it would just freeze up and we'd have to quit, shut everything down and then re-load. So much wasted time and energy.
The whole time this was happening, I thought it was our cable company - and we even switched cable carriers but still had problems. It wasn't until I read the reviews about the Roku that I realized that the device you use plays a vital part in how fast you can stream content. I did a lot of research as it was Christmas time and Google had just released their product; Apple was pushing theirs and of course Amazon had their product. I found a website which compared all the top streaming players and what they could do, what content could be accessed (the others try to prevent you from accessing their competitor's content) - and the Roku came up on top.
So, I bought the Roku as a Christmas present for our family and I wish we had had it long ago. We haven't had any slow streaming - and it's just like watching a DVD, but we're streaming it off the internet. This is an amazing product! Every week I discover a new feature or a new free channel that we like and we never run out of something to watch whether we're interested in all the movies that just won the Academy awards, or into something educational, or any other type of content. There's even free screen savers that give you a soothing aquarium or fireplace screen, with music playing. If we didn't have cable - I think the Roku would satisfy completely, and recommend it highly to anyone that doesn't have cable or just wants to be able to stream movies to their TV. I'm extremely happy with this purchase!!
