LIghtening Fast and Troublefree!

I bought the Roku 3 around four months ago and I cannot be more happier with it. Do no waste time with Apple TV, Sony Media streamer, Vizio media streamer, or the Western Digital Live device. I have had them all! Not worth the hassle or the constant freezes. Just get the Roku and be done with it!

Very good but not great

I had initially given this product an excellent review on Amazon, where I purchased it, but then revised my review somewhat. Setup is a breeze, and most of the usual "channel" suspects are here -- especially the pay services like Netflix, Hulu and Amazon. I use some of those services, but my primary reason for buying this device was to play my own media library through Plex. I am mostly quite satisfied with the device -- the wifi connection is excellent, and virtually all HD content plays in HD quality without buffering or similar problems. The one hiccup is subtitles. For reasons I cannot fathom, some SRT subtitle files that play without a hitch on other devices using Plex, will not play properly on the Roku. I wound up having to actually edit a few subtitle files using a program called Subler before they would play on Plex in Roku. So if you watch a lot of movies that are not in your native language, be aware that Plex on Roku has issues with some subtitle files. I have also seen complaints about similar problems in the Netflix app for Roku. That aside, I would give this product five stars in every category.

Simple and Effective

I've owned the Roku 3 for nearly 3 months. It is a great device! I recommend it without reservations.
I already had a wireless network (5GHz N/AC) that I used to connect to a homemade Home Theater Computer running Windows 7 with Microsoft Media Center. The Microsoft Media Center is a great product but it is not being developed, and integration with Amazon, and other services is missing. So, flipping back and forth between MMC, Amazon UnBox, and the browser was annoying.
I bought the Roku 3 to address this issue.
Roku 3 is compact, simple to install, and covers a variety of services, including Netflix, Amazon, Hulu, and other channels. One notable exception is Vudu. I am seriously considering buying more Roku 3 boxes and dropping Verizon FIOS, except for internet and local channels.
As for a server for photos, music, and movies in my own library, I cannot address this part. For these features I still use my HTC, but I have not explored what the Roku 3 offers. Reading other users experiences tells me that the Roku unit has limited capabilities for these operations.  However, I rarely need these features.

I've been a Roku user since the very first one and have always made sure to upgrade to the latest as they come out. I must admit, I was very surprised at the speed of this latest version. There is no longer any lag or sluggishness when navigating the menus and the picture quality is still amazing. Pairing it with my Harmony One was also a breeze as well. If you're on the fence about this, you will not regret the purchase!

Great features!

I've only had my device a day or so and it has been increasingly difficult to put it down. I have absolutely no complaints about this product other than I found 1 program whose audio was not supported by the device. Other than that, the device's features are quite user friendly, explosive and expansive. With the addition of Hulu Plus and Netflix, I very little use need for Cable.
I would recommend this to a friend!

We bought initially bought it as a supplement to Direct TV. But after they continually increased our rates and we found out how awesome the Roku is, we got fed up and dumped Direct TV. It works great no issues.

I purchased my Roku 3 about 3 weeks ago and am so glad I did. It was very simple to install and set up. Took me about 10 minutes and most of that was moving my TV around to access the back panel. Hook up is very straight forward using an HDMI
cable. Once plugged in, the Roku saw my router and internet connection immediately and once my password to my network was entered I was pretty much off and running.
The remote is small and very simple to maneuver. A big plus for me as I tend to feel my way around a remote rather than look at it. There are options for sound if one has a simple set up or surround, and a few other options one can tinker with. Connectivity is very very good. I was worried about that as I chose the wireless option and with my other internet connections being wired ( I game ) I was concerned that I would lose speed or quality. Didn't happen. Movie streaming is amazingly fast and the quality is superb. I can't tell you how many movies I have streamed so far and find myself pretty much addicted to it. It is a wonderful alternative to Comcast's
premium channels that never seem to change programming. I may get to the point where I ditch Comcast's movie channel package altogether. I should also add that
the Roku is small and unobtrusive. I bought the brackets to hang the Roku off the back of the TV but ended up just setting it beside the TV base and in my armoire I can't even see that it's there. There are many more great things I could say about
the little Roku but in a nutshell, it's one of the best purchases I have made in a very long time and am incredibly glad I did.

I bought this device about a month a go with this in mind, my goal is to someday eliminate the need for cable TV, which is very expensive. We have currently, the digital starter package from Comcast which gives you around a hundred or more channels, and out of these hundred, we usually watch only about ten of them. Our cable bill for TV for a month is around 80 dollars. What upsets me the most is why am I paying all this money for the channels that I don't watch. You should be able to pick and choose what channels you want, instead of being forced to purchase the package that the cable company forces on you. I found out about Roku from a friend, he told me that there is a lot of free channels with movies and shows on the device. At the present I am evaluating what is offered. I have subscribed to Netflix for around two years, and that allows me to watch movies, without subscribing to the Encore package from the cable company, and costs me about $8 a month. I am also looking into Hula Plus for the remainder of the shows from the networks. I must say that this is a step in the right direction in eliminating the hold that the cable company holds over us.
