Good enough but not great!

This system does it's job for the price. It's a good home theater system to start off with. What i like the most about this home theater system is how easy it is connect your mobile device to listen to music or watch your YouTube videos on the big screen. We listened to my playlist music videos for my son's birthday party and it was very useful and fun. It was an easy set up and it has two easy set up options whether you want all your speaker around the tv or all around your living room (surround). I like this option because i rent and i don't want to put holes on the wall or run cables around the wall.
What you must know is that to get the best sound & sound effects you must turn your volume to the MAX or else it's like listening to your tv's factory volume.
What i don't like is that it takes a while to turn the player on like 8 seconds. There is an option to start it immediately but then turning it off takes a long time (i think this is the way it goes) . The interface is very dull to my opinion, it's like an outdated version of the PS3. Whenever i try to go online and stream music it's always updating it's network content, even if you do this 2 days later for some reason. The Netflix interface is frustrating because you can't search for movies by a specific genre only. All the genre runs horizontally on the screen and it's never ending, it's not a grid.
The speakers are beautiful and so is the player. it all looks great with an all black tv stand. The remote control is very responsive with the player and you can lower the tv volume even if it's a different brand (i have a Westinghouse) without any special settings.
By the way Sony Shipped this item very very quickly and it was packaged well, with tracking!
Overall i would recommend this player for anyone taking a first step to HT's. Hope this helps!
I would recommend this to a friend!

Hello Elgin! thank you for your feedback and for choosing SONY. Remember that some applications are third party like Netflix and the interface may not be related to the Sony unit.

Great Buy

I really like this system. The sound is good, I just wish i could adjust the Treble and Bass settings. Not sure if there is a way, but I have looked around all of the settings and didn't see an option. But other than that, I like that fact that its set up similar to a PS3, so that is a great plus. And the Apps installed are great also.
What's great about it: Looks Good, Sounds Good
What's not so great: No Treble or Bass Settings
I would recommend this to a friend!

good but not perfect

perfect for movies, tv shows, and anything with blutooth the only downfall is over time the surround sound tends to get lower and lower in sound quality and you have to turn the volume up. other than that its perfect for listening to music on your iphone or whatever has blutooth on it.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Nice system for the money

Was concerned about the many reviews about pre-wired speakers, but wires are more than long enough for normal set-ups. Sony should end the confusion by specifying the length in their specifications.

Haven't mastered the unit

Easy to hookup to the TV. I was never able to connect to my wireless router. I even purchased one and put it within 10 feet. I recognized the router but from there I was never able to use for anything related to the internet as I could never get it to make a final connection. Sometimes when trying to play a DVD it seems to get confused and not start playing it. Although I have played the same DVD numerous times on the unit, it just is not consistent when trying to play it. Same issues with other DVD's. My second Sony in 8 years and the previous model had its' own issues. No more SONY for me.

Disappointed

This is a basic HT system. What's not obvious is that the speaker wires are integral with the speakers, so if there is not sufficient speaker wire for your layout, too bad. The unit does have good picture and sound quality. Love the football option which sets the surround sound like you are in a stadium. The software audio equalizer options are versatile for those that want to select options, though it does have a number of automatic options for audio equalization settings..
Unfortunately, after 45-days in the entertainment center - it failed with a DVD stuck inside. Just locks up when I plug it in. Worse yet Sony wants everything sent back; I could see that for an audio problem, but this.

I really wanted to love it.....

Having great success with Sony products in the past, it seemed obvious to purchase a Sony product when looking for a new surround sound for our living room television. Boy was I wrong. Here is quick summary about what I feel is wrong with the product
* Constant buffering when streaming
* Installation was a nightmare.
* It doesn't get as loud as I hoped, volume has to be on 20 to even hear anything.
* Had to put extensions on the speakers because the wires were not even close to being long enough.
* The unit wants to control everything...and my tv and satellite system
kept fighting with the unit. After several hours of trying to figure this out, I spent an hour with tech support. Finally got it to work "correctly" until
the next day....the same fighting occurred again. I finally gave up.
I now use the unit only as a stereo system. I disconnected the streaming and had to do a Factory reset to my Roku streaming unit to get it to work.
I would return the product but feel I can't because of the modifications I made to the speaker wire and... my dog chewed a bit on the remote control, I don't think I can.
I think I should have bought a simple receiver and some really good speakers.

HDMI Shortage

Unit should have multiple HDMI inputs instead of just one. I was very disappointed to discover this.
