There's a lot of hype which surrounded the release of Assassin's Creed. The question was whethet it'd be worth the wait.
The answer: yes, but mostly no.
The "social stealth" system they designed for this game is extremely well-implemented. That, combined with breathtaking visuals, are the main reasons to play the game. But it's much akin to Pilotwings 64 in that you can only look at the landscape and do the same things over and over again for just so long.
The controls are very intuitive, and while I never get tired of watching Altair run and climb and fly through the air, the narrative is extremely choppy.
The only way I could think to make the game (which IS that short) go on longer when playing through it was to remove the HUD-compass. Unless turned off, it will, at all times, tell you exactly where to go and how many yards away you are from it.
For a historical exploration / investigation game, that got a bit too easy very quickly. If you do want to play this game, I'd suggest turning it off... but the game doesn't have enough variety for you to want to spend more than 10 or 12 hours working at it.
It's a double-edged sword, and worth playing. Like so many other games, it feels like they built the framework to something special, then didn't deliver. Any Assassin's sequel will probably be an event not to be missed, though.
What's great about it: Best graphics out there, historically realistic, decent story and tutorial
What's not so great: Fun wears off easily, repetition makes game embarassing to watch
No, I would not recommend this to a friend.

Game of the Year

This game is excellent. It took me a while at first to get used to the fighting styles but the graphics are phenomenal. It's a RPG type game in the 3rd person view. Having commented on all the good things, I think I should also point out that this game is much simpler than the other games I've played. It's also a little shorter. I wish I liked the ending a little more than I did, I was waiting for something extravagent, but overall a great game and a must play on Xbox 360 with some out of this world graphics.
What's great about it: Altair is an interesting and memorable character like Sam Fisher and The Prince of Persia (all made by Ubisoft)
What's not so great: Fighting mechanics take a lot of practice.
I would recommend this to a friend!

Assasin's Creed is a fun and exciting game with a huge world to explore. The graphics are amazing and the gameplay is smooth, which makes for an enjoyable experience. This purchase was money well spent.
What's great about it: Amazing graphics, interesting story.
What's not so great: None

Solid Action Game

Assassin's Creed is a great action game from Ubisoft. You play an Assassin who's job it is to take out several villains throughout the cities of Acre, Jerusalem, and Damascus. Killing them involves pickpocketing someone for information, interrogating someone, and then going in for the kill. All of this is very fun, though repetitive. The environments are a lot of fun to roam around in and the controls make jumping from rooftop to rooftop a breeze. The combat is fun, with multiple weapons, techniques, and involvable crowds and environments. I recommend this game to any fan of action games, though heed the slight repetition.
What's great about it: Open Environments, In-depth combat system, good graphics
What's not so great: Repetiition of objectives
I would recommend this to a friend!

really fun being able to climb pretty much everything in sight and the graphics are pretty good. every once and a while it gets boring but then it speeds right back up and is an overall good game
What's great about it: Good story line, graphics
What's not so great: gets boring sometimes

Entertaining

This is a very fun game when your doing the missions and fighting. The graphics are sweet just like the environments and the controls allow unique combos.
It's a crusade version of gande theft auto. Instead of racing around in cars you get a horse and it takes some time getting between cities.
Only downfall is the time it takes to get from point a to point b.
What's great about it: unique control system
What's not so great: a lot of walking around
I would recommend this to a friend!

Assassin's Creed is an amazing game with fun gameplay. It has a very satisfying ending that leaves the player wanting more. The side missions and investigations are all very much the same and can get boring before long, but don't take away from the overall gameplay.
What's great about it: Fun gameplay, great story, can't wait for a sequel.
What's not so great: Get's a little repetitive.
I would recommend this to a friend!

A great buy

The controls are easy to learn and the story itself can absorb a person quite effectively. Being able to scale walls with ease and leap from roof top to roof top gives the player a million different ways to explore the cities and achieve goals.
What's great about it: Great gameplay and wonderful graphics
What's not so great: Can be incredibly difficult
