Excellent Scanner

It performs superbly as a scanner of prints, documents and also for transparencies (slides & negatives). The color match is great and it is easy to use.
I had the old Epson 3200SU Photo Scanner with an additional document feeder. Was looking to replace this with another scanner that was as good. Needed to upgrade because scanner did not have a driver for the newer Windows (Vista, 7 and 8). This is the best scanner - does slides, negatives, transparencies, photos, and documents. The automatic document feeder is reliable so you don't have to watch for a feeding error. The Epson V500 scans more negatives and slides than the older version. This is one of the few scanners you can buy, in this price range, that has the CCD rather than the CIS scanning element. This gives a better scan. If I were to give a negative, it would be it is a little slower than other scanners with an automatic document feeder.
I like the scanner (my second one), but there has been no software update for the MacOS I'm using. It works with Image Capture, but it's clunky and the results aren't always satisfying. I hope this problem can be fixed sometime soon.
I've used the scanner for some time now, through hundreds of film negatives, prints, slides, and all manner of documents. It's solid reliability gets me through a workload with predictable results. I'm currently using it to scan a lifetime of imaging- black and white, color, prints, and different film formats. The V500 handles them all without complaint. I use a different method for slides, but for a small batch, the scanner and bundled software do a fine job.
I bought the V500 to scan the thousands of family negatives and slides which have accumulated over the years. So far I have scanned about 1,000 black and white and color negatives -- many were odd sizes, including some from the 1930's as well as 126 and 110. The scanner performed beautifully and gave excellent results. The color and light corrections are very easy to use and greatly enhance the photos. I have been able to scan much faster than I had expected based on user reviews. Also, contrary to some postings, I found the software easy to deal with. This scanner is a fantastic value and I would recommend it unreservedly.
the v-500 has produced good quality scans, when it works. The lid cover plug often comes loose, causing an error, and having to shut down and reboot the entire program. The enclosed 1 sheet of instructions is woefully inadequate. Be sure to check their website for the closest service center. If there is none within your STATE, you need service you might have to bear shipping fees both ways.
the set up for scanning is too complex and confusing there is no simple put the negative in and push ''SCAN''. BUT, WHEN IT DOES WORK, IT PRODUCES A GOOD SCAN.
I bought this refurbished scanner based on reviews that I had read for scanning my slides, negatives and photos, B & W and color. It's been perfect for my needs. It provides all the resolutions that I need. I use primarlily the high resolutions for maximum scan quality. It's scans quickly and is easy to use.
