I have had epson scanner 3170 in the past and did an upgrade mainly due to the old scanners software. As for this scanner I'm sure will be great except the CD is already 2 years old and abbyy is only version 6.

V500 Photo

Have scanned about 40 4X6 photos so far with the V500. It is a little faster than my previous 4490 photo. I wish the table was a little longer so you could fully scan three 4 x 6 prints at once. It would also be nice if there was a template for the three 4 x 6 prints.

V500 Photo Scanner Great

I hate to read reviews of products just after the customer has plugged the unit in. This is my first scanner so here is my opinion. This is a great scanner for negatives, photos and business usage. I bought the scanner for the photo and negative application and it has worked great! In the last year I have scanned over 4000 photos and negatives and the results were beyond my expectations. I had no problems at all connecting the unit to my computers one with XP and the other 7. Quick and easy. Epson software gives you some ability to improve the quality of the scan, which is really not needed, but another photo program could be used if needed to improve the pictures if needed at printing. I really purchased the scanner to do about 2000 negatives which turned out great. The speed of the scan is ok but really slows down when you choose the higher resolutions. The default resolutions were more than adequate. The manual documentation is complicated at times because you have to go through many screens to get your answer. Very satisfied with this purchase and would recommend to others!

Scanner Review

First off all the unit was recommended by a Photo Tech who deals in forensics. What I was looking for a multi- faceted unit. This one that could scan photos (mine go back to 1930s, slides the 1940s and 50s) plus the same negatives etc. With it I can take images of a low res contact sheet photos and come off with a pretty good image to print on my 1400.
The settings allow me hi-res right down the low res scan of documents

I just got it 2 days ago. I have scanned 2 rolls of film. So far it has done a good job. I skips over under exposed images so I have to figure out how to fix that but so far has done a good job. glad I got it.

Looking at Rocks
on February 23, 2012

In studying a core section of local rock, we produced sections for microscopic mineral identification. The use of a high resolution scanner to look at these sections in both transmitted light as well as reflective light has been very effective, both in terms of results and cost. The V500 has performed perfectly and easily. Its compact sized makes taking it from my office to the lab possible. The resolution options allow blowing up rock grains to huge proportions and in many ways removes the need for a camera equipped reflective microscope. One of these days I'll have to try it for its intended purpose.

Good Photo Scanner

This scanner is great for scanning photos. Easy to set up and operate. The only con so far is it does no scan up to the edge of the glass bed, loose about 1/16 " from the photo.

My first scanner was defective. Orange lite would not go off. I called and they told me to return it and they promptly returned a new one to me.
I have scanned many old family pictures and it does a beautiful job! On top of that it is very simple to use! I am very pleased with my scanner!!
