Good Workhorse scanner for the money

I bought this scanner to replace my previous Epson scanner that finally quit working. I used my old one for many years without any issues. I have scanned over 20,000 photos into my MacBook Pro using my old one, and it performed well so I stayed with the same basic machine. It is a little slower than I'd like, but I have nothing to compare it to so. Like the old one, it is a little clumsy with slides and film. I think there could be a much more efficient way to do it. I usually use a specialized slide scanner instead. However, I have probably scanned all the slides that I ever will. Hence the 4 stars.

Excellent replacement for 1640

This scanner replaced an Epson Perfection 1640 which gave me excellent service for many years, but was not compatible with my Windows 7 upgrade. The V500 has been a perfect replacement with the added feature of ability to scan transparencies. It's fast to warm up and fast to scan, and the included software is excellent. Installation was a breeze. I couldn't be more pleased.

The things I like the most about my Epson V500 scannner are that it is easy to use and the photos scanned turn out to be of almost the same quality of the originals.

This was easy to setup and has been a pleasure to operate. I have scanned many slides from the 50's and 60's. When I first saw my grandparents photos on my HD screen it took my breath away.

This scanner is flexible and reasonably fast with flexibility to make adjustments for many different situations. However, I am currently having difficulty with the auto-feed mechanism. It worked well at first. After only a few hours total use it does not always properly 'grab' the paper in the feed tray. I have not discovered the cause or solution for this yet. It could be the 'slippery' paper I use or the heavier 28 lb. paper that is the source of the problem.

Epson Perfection V500 Photo Scanner

I've owned many scanners in the last 40 years and this one take's the cake for ease and simplicity of use. For newbe or advanced it's a bargain. I tried it out in all permutations paper to pdf, photo to auto jpeg, transparency to jpeg in auto format and then in some advanced settings. Very good results.
